Joey, the brave guard-squirrel, now hailed as a hero.

Adam Pearl walked into his Meridian home Tuesday and realized something didn't seem right. "I came in the front door and I saw snow prints out in the front driveway going to the back of the house, so I thought something was awry because no one usually goes through the yard," said Pearl.

Pearl was immediately greeted by his pet squirrel Joey when he got home, but the he started noticing a few doors that would normally be closed were open. After making his way to the back bedroom, his fear was confirmed once he stated looking at his gun safe.

* The pair were found by Denis Malafeyev, who shared a heart-racing video of the dogs dodging a train which raced over their heads.

* Even after they were rescued, they remained snuggled together in car boot on the way to the vets.

Much as we admire police dogs for their selfless work and sacrifice in the line of duty, these animals never volunteered for the job. They do it out of loyalty and love for their handlers. THEY DO NOT DESERVE to be sacrificed this way.

Five thousand bullets were shot in the raid against a Muslim terrorist den in St. Denis, just outside Paris. Why take a dog to such a violent confrontation? What use can a frightened dog be - no matter how well trained - in such a situation?

Now the web is full of sentimental tributes to this poor animal. But she did not die for her country, or for freedom, or anything like that. She was recruited with love only to be BETRAYED AND SACRIFICED FOR NOTHING.

In spite of constant threats and acts of Muslim terror, European governments are STILL flooding the continent with more and more jihadists and potential jihadists disguised as migrants and asylum seekers.

HERO HUNGARIAN DOG SAVES WOMAN FROM FIRE set alight by her own ex-partner

A Hungarian woman has had her life saved by her hero dog after being savagely set on fire by her ex-partner.

The case, which took place on 24 August 2014 but has been disclosed by the local prosecutor’s office in a statement only now, saw an 51-year-old man set fire to a blanket covering his sleeping ex-partner in the village of Nagybánhegyes, Békés county, southeastern Hungary.

The woman was saved from certain death only by her small mixed breed dog whining and pulling her hand until she woke up.

MOVING STORY OF HEROIC MOTHER DOG WHO SAVED HER PUPPIES FROM A FIRE in Chile, and placed them on the fire truck for safety

The following story occurred in 2012, but it did not come to my attention until now. It's a moving story of animal love, devotion, and intelligence. It happened in Chile, where a mother dog went into a building on fire to rescue all her pups.

That was not all. She placed her babies on the fire truck, so that they would be safe while she carried on with her rescue. All but one puppy survived.

Cat Nap In Box Saves Life Of Abandoned Baby

Masha, a long-haired tabby cat, saved the life of a baby abandoned in the streets of Russia — after she climbed into the box he was discarded in and kept him warm, health officials said.

“The baby had only been outside for a few hours and thanks to Masha … he was not damaged by the experience,” a hospital spokesman told Central European News.

The whiskered hero even meowed to get the attention of a passerby.

This cat found an abandoned baby on the street and climbed into the box he had been dumped in to keep him warm.

“She is very placid and friendly, so when I heard her meowing, I thought that perhaps she had injured herself,” said Obninsk city resident Irna Lavora.

“Normally she would have come and said hello to me. You can imagine my shock when I saw her lying in a box next to a baby.”

Masha is a communal cat who is looked after by local residents. When she found the baby — who appeared to be in great shape — she immediately took to him as if he were her own, according to CEN.

“Clearly her mothering instincts had taken over and she wanted to protect the child,” Larova explained. “He was well-dressed with a little hat, and whoever left him here had even left a few nappies and some baby food.”

The baby was immediately rushed to a local hospital, where he was given a checkup and declared fit and healthy, officials said.

Since the child was found, Masha has been hailed as a hero by local residents — and she’s been reaping the benefits.

“Everyone in the block is very proud of her,” Lavora said. “We have all spoiled her rotten by giving her her favorite food.”

DOG TRIES TO PROTECT HIS FRIEND IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY ROAD AFTER HE HAD BEEN RUN OVER AND KILLED

Primate performs textbook first aid moves to save stricken friend.

These are the creatures we torture in the name of science experimentation, saying that they don't know or feel anything, or deserve any better than to be enslaved and mistreated for our own benefit.

A monkey turned life-saving hero after spending 20 minutes resuscitating his friend who had suffered an electric shock at an Indian railway station and was in danger of being run over by a train.

The unlucky victim had been climbing on high tension overhead cables when he zapped himself unconscious and landed in a heap on the tracks.

Things were looking grim until another monkey sprang into action hauling his friend up, shaking him, dunking him in water and even biting him on the head in a desperate bid to bring him round.

HELPFUL OTTER RETRIEVES TOURIST'S SMARTPHONE FROM THE WATER

A tech-savvy otter has been hailed a hero after retrieving an iPhone from a pool.

Starsky, an Asian short-clawed otter, dived into action after a tourist dropped the Apple smartphone into the murky depths of a pool at the Cornish Seal Sanctuary in Gweek, fearing it was lost forever.

But the nine-year-old otter dived into the tank, hauled the brightly-coloured handset to the surface and calmly handed it to speechless animal care assistant Jenny Lewis.

Starsky arrived at the sanctuary in January 2009, along with his brother Hutch. His usual tricks include juggling stones and climbing up his enclosure - although he's normally too scared to come down by himself.

MIRACLE CAT SURVIVES 20 GUNSHOTS IN NORWAY

It happened in August in Haldensjordet, Hønefoss, Norway.

The injured animal was taken to a local vet after coming home to its owner. The cat had been missing for eight days.

He was treated and miraculously survived the attack. Its injuries included one air gun pellet in its spine, ten pellets in its back-left leg, five in the left side of its stomach, one in the front-left paw and three pellets in its face.

Some of the pellets were successfully removed by the vet, but many of the pellets still remain.

Police chief, Espen Sola, told NRK: “It is simply a tragedy.”

Police are now looking for who was behind the attack or clues leading to an arrest.

COURAGEOUS MONGOOSE TAKES ON FOUR LIONS - AND WINS AGAINST ALL ODDS - A lesson in courage and perseverance for us all - Reminds us of Rikki-Tikki-Tavi (link to cartoon)

He spotted the four young lions surrounding the terrified marsh mongoose

It soon became apparent however the small carnivore could handle itself

They are known as being among the most dangerous predators in the world, but these four lions were left with their tails between their legs after they were brought down a peg or two by a brave mongoose. Despite being much smaller than its four challengers, the aggressive mongoose growled at the big cats and even bit one of them on the nose.

Photographer Jerome Guillaumot came across the scene in the Masaa Mara National Park, in Kenya, after spotting the four young lions surrounding the terrified marsh mongoose.

It soon became apparent however that the carnivore, while being less than 2ft tall, could handle itself as it avoided each attack by dodging and growling at the lions.

The mongoose finally managed to escape from the predators into a nearby hole, but remarkably re-emerged to re-engage the confused cats.

Mr Guillaumot, 54, from Montpellier, in France, said: 'She was watching out for the lions that were still around. Then against all odds, she ran out of her hiding place and the fight resumed. Why did she take this risk? Impossible to know. But she was still fighting fiercely. In some way, the confrontation changed. The lions seemed confused, uncertain what to do.'

After bewildering the lions further, the mongoose made its final escape into a covered area unscathed and the predators were left to lick their wounds.

Mr Guillaumot said: 'Of course I was sure at this time that the mongoose would not escape this fight. The most extraordinary part of this sequence is the fierce defence of the mongoose and how its determination made it possible for it to face its opponents and eventually escape.'

The footage was filmed in September 2011 but has only just been released.

A well-known fictional mongoose is Rikki-Tikki-Tavi, who appears in a short story of the same title in The Jungle Book (1894) by Rudyard Kipling. In this tale set in India, the young mongoose saves his family from a krait and from Nag and Nagaina, two cobras.

DOG TRIES DESPERATELY TO REVIVE FISH STRANDED ON THE BEACH by splashing them with water again and again - Animals show more decency than humans

Anyone who has had a pet knows how kind and compassionate they can be. They are indeed our teachers, and we should repay them with love and kindness.

Daily Mail - A heartbreaking video shows the moment a golden retriever desperately tries to revive some stranded fish by splashing them with water. The video, taken by the dog's owner, shows the hound flicking water at the lifeless fish as they lay on dry land.

The determined dog spends 45 seconds pushing water towards the fish and even nudging one as he tries to bring them back to life, while a woman giggles in the background. As the dog becomes more desperate in his attempts to revive one fish, it scrapes its nose along the ground, missing the shallow puddle of water entirely.

The mobile phone video, shot in Thailand, then shows fish's best friend frantically dashing on to another of the large catches. The dog carries on splashing as its owner laughs more, but the fish still do not move. However, just as the dog starts to lose hope, one of the fish shows a flicker of life as it opens its mouth and flails slightly. By this time the golden retriever has already moved onto another fish and does not notice.

Online reactions

Some animal-friendly YouTube users praised the dog for its actions, while others criticised the person who took the video for laughing. One user, Jack Fermon, said: 'That's why I hate people and love dogs...' Another, under the name Red Magnet, added: 'Dog tries to save fish while humans only take a video and post it on YouTube. Sounds about right.' Cody Graham said: 'Dogs are so much kinder then people are.'
