EVEN ONE NIGHT WITHOUT PROPER SLEEP CONTRIBUTES TO ALZHEIMER'S disease, says university study - Disrupted sleep increases brain protein associated with Alzheimer's

  • Lack of sleep is known to be harmful to our health and well being.
  • Now a study proves that it can also contribute to Alzheimer's disease, as the following article explains.
  • But Alzheimer's may have several origins.
  • One of them is prions, which are pathogens that can be transmitted from medical tools such as dentists' instruments, from blood transfusions, meat contaminated with BSC, and even from person to person.
  • This proven and alarming fact is played down by scientists and the media because of its obvious implications for the meat industry, dental care, and other medical procedures.
  • Prions are microscopic life forms that are neither bacteria nor viruses.
  • They can travel from grass to cow to human. Or from a contaminated item to you.
  • Certain prions can cause serious neurological damage to both animals and people, including Alzheimer's.
  • What makes prions so dangerous is that they are indestructible by any known method of sterilization.
  • So while lifestyle and genetics may influence the incidence of Alzheimer's, there are prions lurking in our environment that are a real threat.
  • READ MORE about prions and Alzheimer's HERE
Study:  Disrupting just one night of sleep in healthy, middle-aged adults causes an increase in a brain protein associated with Alzheimer's disease, research shows.

Further, a week of poor sleep leads to an increase in another brain protein that has been linked to brain damage in Alzheimer's and other neurological diseases.   A good night's sleep refreshes body and mind, but a poor night's sleep can do just the opposite.

First they came for the Jews.  Arabs have been stabbing and massacring Israeli men, women and children for a long time.  But as long as the victims were Jews, the West condoned and dismissed such crimes as 'resistance'.   It was only after Muslim terrorists started targeting non-Jews in Europe and the USA that the West took notice and realized that those acts were nothing but centuries-old jihad based on Koranic decrees to kill the Infidel.

  • The map of the human body has just been radically changed.person relaxing in the forest
  • Scientists discovered new vessels that connect the brain to the immune system.
  • Could have effects on study and treatment of neurological diseases ranging from autism to Alzheimer's.
  • Scientist:  We always perceived it before as something esoteric that can't be studied. But now we can ask physical questions.
  • See also related medical articles published in before this discovery that found a connection between thoughts and the immune system performance.  They just did not know how it happened.
  • And how spending quiet time in a natural setting, such as taking a walk in the park or in a real forest, can boost your immune system.  Your positive thoughts in a beautiful setting can affect your body and your health.

In a stunning discovery that overturns decades of textbook teaching, researchers at the University of Virginia School of Medicine have determined that the brain is directly connected to the immune system by vessels previously thought not to exist.

That such vessels could have escaped detection when the lymphatic system has been so thoroughly mapped throughout the body is surprising on its own, but the true significance of the discovery lies in the effects it could have on the study and treatment of neurological diseases ranging from autism to Alzheimer's disease to multiple sclerosis.

THE MAGIC OF BALLET - IT STRENGTHENS BONES AND EVEN HELPS YOUR BRAIN IN OLD AGE - YOU CAN START BALLET DANCING AT ANY AGE

The music and the dance - whether you watch ballet or practice it on your own - will do wonders for your  spirit.

The following article says that ballet is good for the mind as well.  I don't doubt it.

In a world where we perform so many mindless tasks, and where we are assaulted by news of violence and tragedy every single day, classical ballet is a portal to a different universe of beauty and fantasy.

One note of caution:  beginners need professional guidance.  It is very easy to injury yourself.  Listen to your instructor - but most of all listen to your body.  Be gentle and patient.  Mastering a movement happens in small increments.  It takes discipline to wait for signs of progress.  Don't rush it.

Above all, ballet should be inspiring and it should be fun.

Could being a silver swan stop you ageing? It strengthens bones, staves off dementia and beats aches... no wonder so many older women are taking up ballet.

  • The Royal Academy of Dance's latest figures for their SILVER SWAN program show a 70 per cent increase, and their oldest dancer is 102.
  • Jules Barker, 56, took it up after both of her daughters left home
  • She attends four classes a week with ten other adult dancers
  • Ilona Johnson Gibbs, 74, took up ballet after a nasty fall two years ago
  • Hilary Constable, started learning ballet a few years ago after turning 60
  • Ballet can help alleviate scoliosis, depression, balance issues, and many other ailments.

    EYES

WHITE RINGS IN THE IRIS: If someone has high cholesterol in their bloodstream, it can show up as a white circle in the iris, the coloured part of the eye.

‘Another sign of high cholesterol is small fatty deposits in the white of the eye, known as pingueculas,’ says Francesca Marchetti, of the College of Optometrists.

Small fatty lumps or pimples on the eyelids and skin around the eye are another symptom of high cholesterol.

These are a particular danger sign, says David Webb, professor of therapeutics and clinical pharmacology at the University of Edinburgh and an expert in cardiovascular health.

‘They suggest you have a greater propensity to lay down fat than other people do and, therefore, are more likely to have it blocking up the blood vessels, which can lead to heart attack or stroke.’

DROOPING EYELID: This may be an indicator of Bell’s palsy where the nerve supply to the eye becomes disrupted, says optometrist Ms Marchetti.

Bell’s palsy is often linked to a virus making the nerve inflamed. In rare cases, it may suggest a stroke (although here it would usually be accompanied by other symptoms such as weakness on one side and slurring of words).

A MOMENT OF BEAUTY - PHOTOGRAPHS OF BALLET DANCERS IN REAL WORLD SETTINGS

Claire Unabia: This is the first photograph Dane Shitagi took for the Ballerina Project, back in 1994 in Manoa Falls, HonoluluWe are being swamped with so many images and words of violence and horror that we need to take a break for beauty.

Here is an article I posted months ago that will bring associations of calm and creativity.

It's perfectly OK to retreat into our inner world when the one outside is just too deranged to tolerate.  That's one reason why there are so many pictures of animals on this blog.  Animals' goodness and innocence keep us sane.

BALLET DANCERS IN MAGICAL POSES IN REAL WORLD SETTINGS

STUDY: EXERCISE REJUVENATES THE SKIN - It can make skin look 20 years younger, as seen under the microscope

CBC - Preliminary findings out of McMaster University shows that exercise can prevent and even reverse the effects of aging in the skin.

“It shows is that exercise is something we should be doing not just for our hearts and our brains and to lower cancer risk,” said Dr. Mark Tarnopolsky, a professor of pediatrics and exercise science at McMaster, “but also it’s going to make our skin healthier.”

What Tarnopolsky sees may be a bit different than when you see. When he said the skin looks 20-30 years younger, he’s looking at it at a microscopic level.

“The dermis thins, so it gives skin a wrinkly, so of sloppy appearance,” explained Tarnopolsky. “And then the outer coating, the stratum corneum which is the outer part of the epidermis, it thickens which gives you a flakey skin as you get older as well.”

What exercise does is prevent the dermis from thinning and the stratum corneum from thickening, making skin look decades younger at a microscopic level.

He made the discovery when studying the effects of exercise on mice genetically modified to age faster. Comparing sedentary mice to those who exercise on a wheel three times a week, he found “massive systematic benefits.”

“One of our most striking findings was the skin,” said Tarnopolsky. “It was dramatically abnormal in the aging mouse and completely protected with exercise.”

To test the theory further, he looked at skin biopsies of humans, taking samples from the upper buttocks, an area that wouldn’t be exposed to damage from the sun.

“I think a lot of people wouldn’t even think that exercise helps your skin because if you look at a runner like me we have a lot of wrinkles on our face because we spend so much time in the sun,” said Tarnopolsky.

“So the photo aging kind of counters the benefits of exercise [to the skin], so in order to see the effects we have to look at an area that isn’t bombarded by sun.”

Taking it a step further, Tarnopolsky tried to show if exercise could reverse the effects of aging. Looking at people aged 65 and older, he studied what would happen if he introduced exercise at the late age. What he found was that the skin would appear 20 to 30 years younger under the microscope after three months.

And it didn’t take much — participants exercised for 30 minutes three times a week on a stationary bike.

Tarnopolsky said he’s now turning his research to what processes at a protein level are reversing the effects of aging, but also looking to see what specific benefits we have from healthier skin.

“Do we actually have long-term protection from sun associated cancers?” Tarnopolsky asked.
We’ll have to wait to find out.
