Geneva, September 17 – The United Nations body tasked with monitoring and addressing human rights violations around the world voted today to remove beheading and other brutal forms of murder from its purview, saying that the member nations did not consider those acts in and of themselves worthy of attention.

Human Rights Council Resolution 4411, adopted by majority vote, calls on the various organs of the Council to exclude reports of beheading, Nazi-style mass shootings, and the starvation of besieged civilians from reports, as those acts are no longer categorized as violations.

Thirty nations voted in favor of the measure, twelve opposed, and one, Britain, abstained. The United State representative was not present.

Council representatives expect the measure to make their work more efficient, as they can focus more intensely on the issues that really matter, such as Israel.

The resolution, introduced by Council member Sudan, explicitly calls for the establishment of several investigative commissions into Israeli crimes, in addition to the Schabas Commission, using personnel now made available through the new limitation of the Council’s mandate.

Recommended areas of investigation include blatant Israeli disregard for the Palestinian political and civil right of killing as many Israelis as possible, and the illegal use of deadly force in combating Palestinian use of deadly force.

Cairo, July 30 – Increasing alienation between Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and US President Barack Obama has prompted Egyptian leader Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to propose that he mediate talks aimed at bridging the chasm separating the two administrations.

The American and Israeli leaders have long had a tense relationship personally, and that has exacerbated differences in policy goals and assumptions about the ongoing Israeli conflict with the Palestinians and the Muslim world in general. In contrast, the Egyptian president’s views and policies have dovetailed to an unprecedented degree with those of the hawkish Netanyahu, while he has maintained friendly, if not close, ties to the US. That evolution has placed Sisi in the unique position of mediating the simmering dispute.

Geneva, July 23 – The ongoing conflict in and around the Gaza Strip has prompted a dozen prominent nations to send delegates to Geneva to formulate special amendments to existing laws of war, since the current body of law does not sufficiently hamper Israel in defending itself.

Representatives of France, Britain, Germany, The United States, Russia, China, Japan, and other countries will spend the next ten days making changes to the restrictions on the conduct of war as they now stand, adding dozens of provisions that further constrain the permitted activities of armed forces, and that apply only to Israel.

Mosul, Iraq, July 20 – The embattled residents of this northwest Iraq city are certain that any day now, protesters in European capitals will take to the streets to call for the world to step in and stop the bloodshed in war-torn Iraq, because as the demonstrations against the Gaza war indicate, human rights are clearly the central value behind those protests.

Tel Aviv, July 17 – Representatives of several ecologically-minded organizations leveled criticism at Israel’s conduct of Operation Protective Edge today upon discovering that the IDF has been dropping thousands of leaflets to warn Gazans of impending airstrikes.

They called the policy “abhorrent,” saying that such a wasteful use of paper betrays a callous, if not willful, disregard for the planet’s shrinking tree resources.

Adam, Teva, V’din, a leading Israeli environmental advocacy group, joined with the local chapters of Greenpeace and several other NGOs in issuing a statement to denounce Israel’s methods of attempting to minimize civilian casualties in the ongoing fight with Palestinian groups launching rockets and mortar shells at Israeli towns and cities from the Gaza Strip.

The ten-day-old operation has involved more than a thousand different attacks on Palestinian weapons depots, positions, rocket-launchers, launching crews, command centers, fighters, tunnels, and bunkers, all in built-up, heavily populated areas.

Jerusalem, July 3 – More than 800 commentators, politicians, and other public figures needed medical treatment yesterday when they suffered various injuries incurred while jumping to conclusions over the abduction and murder of Muhammad Abu Khdeir, 16, whose body was found in the Jerusalem forest Wednesday morning.

Hospitals reported admitting hundreds of patients for jumping-related injuries yesterday and today, with the most common conclusion that Muhammad had been kidnapped and murdered in revenge for the kidnapping and murder of three Israeli teens nearly three weeks ago. Their bodies were found on Monday, and buried side-by-side Tuesday.

Less common conclusions included that the boy was murdered by family members. Rumors swirled yesterday, also causing several head injuries, regarding the possibility that Muhammad was killed over suspected homosexuality. Police have declined to comment on the progress of the investigation, if any.

IF JESUS LIVED IN JUDEA TODAY
