There is an uncontrollable profit-driven race to come up with 'smaller and better' in personal communications technology.  This may result in products that are not always safe.  Case in point lately is the exploding Samsung cell phones.   The following article warns us about another item that should give us concern.  

• The new iPhone 7 airpods are wireless, Bluetooth, and radioactive.
• Dr Joel Moskowitz, a professor at the UC Berekely School of Public Health, said people would be ‘putting a microwave-emitting device next to your brain’.
• Apple’s engineers argue that the frequencies are well within the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) guidelines.  
• Dr Moskowitz said more than 200 scientists who study electromagnetic radiation safety believe that the FCC guidelines are inadequate to protect human health.
• Animal studies have found that exposure to very low intensity microwave radiation can open the blood-brain barrier enabling chemical toxins in the circulatory system to penetrate brain tissue.
• The findings are nothing new, Dr Moskowitz explains. 'This has been observed over several decades.  It's like we keep rediscovering that Bluetooth is harmful and trying to forget it because we don't know how to handle it from a policy standpoint."

Is this how the world would look if humans disappeared? Camera traps show animals have reclaimed Chernobyl's radioactive wasteland 30 years after the disaster

• Scientists monitored wildlife in the radioactive exclusion zone at Chernobyl using remote camera traps
• They recorded 12 species of mammal, including bear, deer and wolves
• Radiation levels in the area do not seem to be lowering animal numbers or life span
• But the Ukrainian government is considering using this zone as a nuclear waste dump, which would definitely put an end to this second chance wildlife enjoys in a place without people - and add to the lethal toxicity of the area

• The threat of nuclear power plants has been mostly hidden from us by a very effective nuclear industry propaganda machine. 
• They have told us that they are "clean energy," without mentioning that to this day there is no safe way to store or dispose of nuclear waste, which keeps accumulating in dangerous amounts. 
• They don't tell us that the life of a nuclear power plant is relatively short (just a few decades), and that the cost of decommissioning them is extremely high, and the process definitely not "clean".
• And they don't tell us of the many close calls that NPPs suffer each year, threatening the lives of millions of people.
• A natural disaster or a terror attack, such an EMP event (caused by a giant solar flare or a nuclear explosion in the atmosphere) would fry the electric grid, unleashing the meltdown of nuclear power plants which need electricity to run.

 

New York State Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant still leaking dangerous amounts of radioactive material into groundwater used as drinking water by millions of New York State residents

An uncontrollable flow from the Indian Point nuclear power plant - 25 miles from New York City - continues to leak into groundwater, which leads to the Hudson River, the drinking water source for millions of people in the area. 

 

RT reports - Health and environment commissioners were ordered by Governor Andrew Cuomo to begin an investigation into the leak of “radioactive tritium-contaminated water” at the Indian Point nuclear power plant after the operator, Entergy Nuclear Operations, raised the alarm.

 

One of the three wells in question, according to Cuomo’s statement, had “radioactivity increasing nearly 65,000 percent,” while in total the company reported “alarming levels of radioactivity” at three monitoring wells.

Israeli drug developer Pluristem Therapeutics Inc. last week announced that the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), which is part of the US National Institutes of Health (NIH), will initiate studies in large animals to evaluate dosing for Pluristem’s PLX-R18 as a medical counter measure in the treatment of the hematologic components of Acute Radiation Syndrome (ARS).

The company has developed an anti-radiation therapy that the US government is eager to purchase, because it cures 100% of cases of exposure to radiation. Acute Radiation Syndrome is caused by exposure to very high levels of radiation, such as those that could occur in a nuclear catastrophe. The syndrome can cause severe illness or death.

The question is how many of these secret radioactive waste dumps are there in or around our cities?

 

 

A government contractor buried tens of thousands of barrels of nuclear waste in two sites around St. Louis that may have caused more than 2,700 cases of cancer, a lawsuit and CBS News are alleging.

 

In 1947, the Manhattan Project, which created the first atom bomb, chose about 22 acres of land north of Lambert Airport in St. Louis as its dumping grounds for radioactive waste.

 

Hundreds of thousands of tons of it, all owned by the government, were carelessly stored outside, allowing the holding containers to rust and spill uranium and other contaminants out onto the ground.

 

By the time contamination became a concern in 1962, the now-defunct Atomic Energy Commission began shopping for potential buyers for the waste.

 

In the following years, waste spilled out and polluted neighboring property while in transit, before even more waste was illegally dumped in the West Lake Landfill.

 

The dump was ruled to have been contaminated with 150,000 tons of radioactive waste by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission in 1988, but the cleanup effort was never completed.

“Within a six-house radius, I knew four people with brain cancer, one a child, one a young professor,” resident Jenelle Wright told CBS. “And I just thought, ‘This is really odd.'”

 

What is truly disturbing is that Wright and others only figured out that something was wrong when they got together on Facebook to plan a school reunion. When they started reconnecting, they noticed that a lot of people they knew had developed cancer.

 

“If we did not have social media, if Facebook did not exist, we would never have put these pieces together,” Wright said.

Following three forest fires in Ukraine (stock image), scientists from the Norwegian Institute for Air Research measured radiation levels in the soil and atmosphere. They discovered that these fires caused around 0.5 petabecquerels of radioactive caesium to be released over eastern Europe as smoke

It's been 29 years since an explosion at the Chernobyl nuclear plant in Ukraine released large doses of radiation across Europe. 

 

But the effects of that devastating event could still be affecting the continent as a result of recent forest fires in Ukraine.

 

According to new research, these fires are causing radioactive caesium in the soil around the nuclear plant to be released into the atmosphere as smoke, which then travels across Eastern Europe.

In the event of a nuclear catastrophe in the US, Israeli technology will stand ready to save millions of lives. Haifa-based Pluristem Therapeutics has been working for the past eight months with the US National Institutes of Health on developing a treatment for acute radiation syndrome (ARS) – the mass destruction of tissues and cells caused by exposure to high levels of radiation, like from a bomb or a nuclear accident.

In tests conducted in Israel and the US, animals, most of them mice, were subjected to total-body irradiation, then injected with human cytokines.

 

They showed significantly increased survival rates when treated with Pluristem’s PLX-RAD cells. The treatment actually reversed the effects of radiation disease to a great extent, a development once thought impossible. 

 

The reversal just one of the near-miraculous things that Pluristem’s technology is capable of, said Zami Aberman, chairman and CEO. It’s based on harvesting cells from human placenta.
