Einstein was right: Scientists detect gravitational waves caused by two black holes colliding 1.3billion years ago in historic experiment proving the theory of general relativity
For the first time, scientists in the Ligo Scientific Collaboration have directly observed the ripples of gravitational waves. Using the world's most sophisticated detector, the project scientists listened for 20 thousandths of a second as the two giant black holes, one 35 times the mass of the sun, the other slightly smaller, circled around each other.
