Humpbacks protect seals and other animals from killer whales—but why?
Humpback whales, like the one in the foreground, will charge killer whales that are attacking other marine mammals.

At first it seemed like the usual, deviously clever attack. Several killer whales were trying to catch a Weddell seal that had taken refuge atop a drifting patch of Antarctic ice. The orcas swam alongside each other, creating a wave that knocked the hapless pinniped into the water. Death seemed certain.

Then something amazing happened: A pair of humpback whales turned up. As the panicked seal swam toward them, a lucky wave tossed it onto the chest of the closer, upturned whale.

The whale arched its chest out of the water, which kept the seal away from the charging killer whales. And when the seal started to fall off, the whale carefully pushed it back onto its chest with a flipper. Soon after that, the seal scrambled to safety on another ice floe.

FAROE ISLANDS SADISTIC BLOOD ORGY AS INHABITANTS TRAP AND GLEEFULLY HACK AND STAB HUNDREDS OF WHALES TO DEATH FOR FUN - This savagery takes place every year in civilized Europe - Faroe Islands are located between Norway and Iceland, and are part of the Kingdom of Denmark

Slaughter turns the sea red with blood: Horrifying scenes as fishermen chase 250 whales onto a beach in the Faroe Islands and locals leap into the water with glee to stab them to death.
  • WARNING: GRAPHIC CONTENT
  • The brutal slaughtering of pilots whales took place at Bøur and Tórshavn in the Faroe Islands
  • Locals dressed in wetsuits wade into the water, and use knifes and harpoons to hack all the whales to death
  • Close footage shows some of the huntsmen laughing and smiling, droplets of blood dripping down from their sweaty brows.
  • Danish Navy ships were nearby to protect the massacre operation from protesters of the Sea Shepherd Society as evidence of Denmark's collaboration with this inhumane act.
  • Although whaling is illegal in Denmark, the annual hunt, known as the grindadráp, is allowed in the Faroe Islands
  • The Faroes Islands are an independent country within the kingdom of Denmark.

  • Witnesses: Slain on the beaches, hundreds of locals come down to watch the brutal slaughter
The annual fun of massacring whales.  Faroes Islands inhabitants enjoy their much awaited orgy of cruelty and violence against defenseless and innocent animals.

Their bodies lie beached on the dark shore, large slash marks penetrate the neck and sides of the whale as the blood mixes with the cold water.

Known as the grindadráp, the brutal slaughtering of pilots whales in the Danish owned Faroe Islands took place on July 23.

As many as 250 whales were reportedly massacred on two beaches in Bøur and Tórshavn as locals used harpoons and knifes to hack the all of the pilot whales to death.

Contemplating: Local Faroese men reflect in the bloodstained water after the horrendous hunt, which is known as the grindadráp
Northern Europeans, all of them.  This is not happening in some place away from civilization, or because of a religious ritual excuse.

This is done by Europeans for the sheer SADISTIC fun of making captured animals suffer by killing them in the most gruesome manner.

Shame!  Shame on all of them, the perpetrators and the spectators.  And shame on Denmark for condoning and protecting this brutal yearly massacre of animals that never hurt anyone.

LARGE NUMBERS OF WHALES, DOLPHINS AND OTHER MARINE LIFE KILLED AND INJURED BY U.S. SONAR AND WEAPONS TESTING

The United States reports these tests. There are many other nations that keep them secret.  So this massive attack on ocean life is much greater than reported.

ACTIVIST POST - Not only have whales been showing up dead with dozens of pounds of toxic, plastic waste inside their stomachs, the U.S Navy plans to raise the death toll by conducting underwater testing of explosive weapons and sonar devices. Tests will be and are taking place in the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, including the Gulf of Mexico.

According to Greenpeace, government estimates are calculated at 138,500 whales and dolphins will be injured or killed.

These events are set to commence and take place from 2014 through 2019. The title is not an exaggeration, depending on the vicinity of the animals, detonating these explosives underwatermwill kill whales and dolphins and injure many, according to two environmental impact statements released by the military.

Keep in mind, these events have been occurring for a number of years, and are responsible for the death of large amounts of marine life.
The Navy is not denying these facts. They have admitted that most of the deaths would come from detonation of explosives, sonar testing or animals being hit by ships. Although I do not trust Navy estimates, according to their computer models this activity could kill hundreds of whales. The Navy said it developed the estimates by totaling the hours it will test and practice with sonar, torpedoes, missiles, explosives and other equipment for five years. This testing will be (and already has been) responsible for the death of thousands.

Take action by sending an email to The Honorable Charles T. Hagel, U.S. Secretary of Defense. You can email him at charles.t.hagel.mil@mail.mil. Feel free to use this sample letter provided by PETA.

There are also corporate interests here, exploration companies are allowed to use dangerous blasts of noise to search for offshore oil and gas. The U.S. Department of the Interior is considering allowing geophysical companies that work for the oil and gas corporations to use these techniques in the Atlantic Ocean, from Delaware to Florida.
There are no noise-cancelling headphones to stop the U.S. Navy’s 235-decibel pressure waves of unbearable pinging and metallic shrieking. At 200Db, the vibrations can rupture your lungs, and above 210 Db, the lethal noise can bore straight through your brain until it hemorrhages that delicate tissue. If you’re not deaf after this devastating sonar blast, you’re dead. This is the real life of marine mammals destroyed by the U.S. Navy’s all-out acoustic war on the world’s oceans. The collateral damage of this high intensity military sonar is shocking. But because all these millions of dying whales or dolphins are too often out of human sight, they’re also out of mind. (8)
Just like Orca researcher Ken Balcomb calls it, this is “acoustic holocaust.”

Scientific American calls military sonar a brutal and inhumane death sentence.

HEARTBREAKING SLAUGHTER OF WHALES AND DOLPHINS BY JAPANESE FISHERMEN - THEN THEY RAM ACTIVISTS' VESSEL

    • Japanese claim killing whales is only 'scientific research
    • 'Sea captains tell of Japanese ships' eight hour attack
    • Volunteers tell of 'heartbreaking' scenes of dolphin killing

Sea Shepherd claims the collision was deliberate and part of a sustained attack by three whaling ships on the protestors.  In Sunday's attack, which continued until 9am, the harpoon vessels overtook the Sea Shepherd ships, crossing their bows and coming within three to five metres in numerous "dangerous manoeuvres", Sea Shepherd claimed.

It said the Yushin Maru 3 struck the Bob Barker and quoted the ship's captain, Peter Hammarstedt, and  Siddarth Chakravarty of the Steve Irwin saying the two ships on several occasions had to steer out of the harpoon whalers' paths, narrowly avoiding potential collisions.  "The whaling vessels also made consecutive attempts to foul the propellers of the Sea Shepherd ships by dragging steel cable across the bow of the conservation ships."

ABC Australia - The Australian government is facing fresh calls to monitor whaling in the Southern Ocean after footage released by activists shows Japanese whalers have made a successful start to this season's hunt.

Anti-whaling group Sea Shepherd says its three boats found all five ships from the Japanese whaling fleet, one with four dead minke whales onboard.Sea Shepherd says the Japanese fleet was in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary and that the activist group was working to drive the fleet from the area.

It is the first time the environmentalists and the whaling fleet have crossed paths this season.Environment Minister Greg Hunt last month said the Government would send a plane to monitor the fleet, despite promises before the election to send a ship.
