As you read this article, please keep in mind that there is a larger picture here, beyond a few German companies with good connections to government selling poison gas to an Arab tyrant.
And part of that larger picture is not only the Holocaust but the ongoing support provided by the West to Arab countries and terrorist groups (such as Fatah and Hamas in Israel and Gaza), whose goal is the weakening and eventual destruction of the State of Israel.
Main points, followed by Spiegel's article:
- For almost a year and a half Chancellor Merkel has sat on a list of German companies involved in supplying poison gas ingredients to Syria.
- The list was gathered by a reputable international organization, winner of a Nobel Prize.
- Merkel says the list is classified information, and has done nothing.
- But the German government has known since at least 1984 about German companies providing Syria with ingredients and know-how for the manufacture of poison gas.
- Although the following article refers to victims within Syria, the Jews of Israel were the obvious intended target.
- The German government was apprised by Israel and the US of this German sale of ingredients for WMDs to Syria many decades ago, and by its own intelligence agency in 1984.
- Apparently successive German governments have placed business above ethics in their refusal to act against these practices.
- But there is a larger picture here.
- Since the end of World War II, since Hitler failed to destroy the Jews all the way to Palestine, as was his plan, European and US governments have been arming and supporting Arab governments and terrorist groups whose goal is to finish the job Hitler left undone.
- To this day Europe and the US finance and arm the Palestinians, whose only goal is to kill Jews and destroy Israel.
- The White House also sold $11 billion worth of weapons to Qatar, a country well known for supporting, arming and financing terrorist groups such as ISIS and Hamas.
- Thus the White House, while pledging support for Israel, is arming Hamas, a terror group aimed at destroying Israel.
- Although the German companies that were selling poison gas to Syria are located in what was known as West Germany, Communist East Germany too was financing and supporting Arab terrorist groups throughout the Cold War years.

SPIEGEL - When it comes to war crimes and crimes against humanity, the German government is unyielding -- particularly when it comes to finding excuses for why it should do nothing when it comes to potential German perpetrators.

For more than 16 months, Chancellor Angela Merkel's government has been in possession of a list containing the names of German companies thought to have helped Syrian dictator Bashar Assad and his father Hafis build up Syria's chemical weapons arsenal over the course of several decades. Ultimately, it became one of the largest such arsenals in the world.
The German government, a coalition between Merkel's conservatives and Vice Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel's center-left Social Democrats (SPD), received the list from the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).
The OPCW was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2013 for its "extensive efforts to eliminate chemical weapons." Together with experts from the United Nations, the OPCW organized and carried out the destruction of Syrian chemical weapons last year.

Berlin immediately classified the list and has since kept it under lock and key. The government says that releasing the names would "significantly impair foreign policy interests and thus the welfare of the Federal Republic of Germany."
It also argues that doing so would be akin to releasing "trade secrets" and as such would violate the German constitution.
It is an astonishing justification when one considers what Assad's German suppliers enabled the dictator to do. Over the years, the Syrians produced and stored poison gas weapons with an explosive power of more than 1,500 megatons.
