OUTBREAK - CDC CONFIRMS SECOND CASE OF MERS VIRUS IN THE UNITED STATES

Fox News - The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced the second imported case of the deadly MERS virus in the United States, according to a statement released Monday. The CDC said they are currently investigating the new case and have not yet released further information.

The first case of MERS in the U.S. was reported by the CDC on May 2nd.

The outbreak has been most intense in Saudi Arabia, where some 414 people have fallen victim to the deadly Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) virus after a further 18 were diagnosed on Monday.

One hundred and fifteen people have died so far as a result of the disease.

CBC - Health officials on Friday confirmed the first case of an American infected with a mysterious Middle East virus. The man fell ill after arriving in the U.S. about a week ago from Saudi Arabia where he is a health-care worker. The man is hospitalized in Indiana with Middle East respiratory syndrome, or MERS, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which is investigating the case along with Indiana health officials.
