A capybara struts across a fairway at the official Rio golf course during a practice round on Day 3
  • Rio's official Olympics golf course is located between two lakes within the Marapendi Natural Reserve
  • The area is home to a number of animals, some which have reared their heads as the players train
  • A burrowing owl created a stir on Tuesday as it poked its head from a den in a bunker on the ninth hole
  • Players already reported seeing capybaras - the worlds largest rodent - and a caiman, a close relative of an alligator
  • The animals are NOT amused.

  • Australian team captain Ian Baker-Finch said he was taken aback when he first spotted the native South American rodent pottering around the course
The largest rodent in the world happens to be the super-cute capybara.

WAS ZIKA OUTBREAK CAUSED BY GENETICALLY MODIFIED MOSQUITOS? The release of GM mosquitos combined with Brazil's overuse of antibiotics in animal feed may have combined in unexpected ways to create this major outbreak.

The following article is a speculative report but not without basis.  Genetic experimentation is notorious for being indifferent to the Law of Unintended consequences.
    Flavivirus
    ZIKA VIRUS

In spite of our human arrogance, this Earth belongs to microbes.  Microbes outnumber us, they rule over us, and they will outlast us.  I would like to encourage everyone to learn more about them, and viruses in particular.

Viruses are ancient, mysterious, and fascinating infectious agents with unique ways for reproducing, evolving, and surviving.

Although they are inert outside a host, they act as a regular life form once they invade a host (which could be another virus!).

Large portions of our human genome are of viral origin.

At several points in our animal ancestors' lives there were viruses that invaded them and mixed their viral genes with the genes of the animal host in symbiotic relationships that last to this day.

Please read article on how humans would not exist without viral contribution to their genome.  Viruses allow for the existence of the placenta.   VIRUS MADE HUMAN EXISTENCE POSSIBLE

Zika Outbreak Epicenter In Same Area Genetically-Modified Mosquitoes Released In 2015

THE MIRROR, UK -  The Zika virus outbreak currently gripping the Americas could have been sparked by the release of genetically modified mosquitoes in 2012, critics say.

Marcio Duranc, a 40-year-old photographer, captured the beautiful Poco Azul cavern: a 16-metre underground cave in Brazil
  • Photographer Marcio Duranc, 40, captured the sheer magnificence of this vast, 16-metre deep underground cave
  • Its transparent crystalline blue water and submerged trees make it difficult to tell where water ends and rocks begin
  • And tourists who visit the Poco Azul cavern in Chapada Diamantina National Park are encouraged to take a dip
  • The otherworldly cave is situated at the bottom of a sinkhole near the Paraguaçu River in Nova Redenção, on the eastern front of Chapada Diamantina.
  • In the 1990s, it was explored by cave diver and film maker Tulio Shargel, who found a large bone hidden in the sediment at the bottom of the pool.
  • The bone was later identified as part of the skeleton of a giant five tonne sloth, which became extinct during the Pleistocene period, more than 11,000 years ago.
  • Remarkably, a team of 30 aerologists then returned to the site to discover the remains of about forty different species of animals, most of them extinct.
