Sex, Drugs and Rock & Roll

Woodstock was not so original, according to Israeli archaeologists.  The most ancient music scene known in the research of Israel appears on a rare 5,000 year old cylinder seal impression from the Early Bronze Age, according to Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA) archaeologists Dr. Yitzchak Paz, Dr. Ianir Milevski and Nimrod Getzov. 

They will present their new findings in a symposium entitled “Sex, Drugs and Rock & Roll” on behalf of IAA and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

The impression, which was found in the 1970s at the Bet Ha-Emek antiquities site during an archaeological survey conducted in the Western Galilee by Dr. Rafi Frankel, was made using a cylinder seal rolled along the surface of the clay before it was fired, forming a series of repeating designs. 

The scene depicted on the seal impression includes three female figures, two standing and one sitting. The seated figure is playing an instrument that appears to be a lyre – a musical instrument known from the ancient world.

The researchers said:

It seems that the rare seal impression, which appeared on a fragment of a large storage vessel (pithos), sheds light on the symbolic-ritualistic world of the Early Bronze Age inhabitants in Israel. The importance of the scene lies in the possible symbolic context, it being part of a complex ritual known in Mesopotamia as the ‘sacred marriage’. In this ceremony a symbolic union took place between the king and a goddess (actually represented by a priestess).  

The ceremony included several rites: music and dancing, a banquet, a meeting between the king and the goddess and an act of sexual congress between them. Recently, Professor Pierre de Miroschedji of the CNRS suggested that many of the seal impressions from the Early Bronze Age portray the sacred marriage rite.

The seal impression presented reflects the musical part connected to this ceremony. 

“This is the first time it is definitely possible to identify a figure playing an instrument on a seal impression from the third millennium BCE,” the researchers added.” This is when most of the ‘cultic’ impressions from Israel depict dancing figures or the feasting scene in which the female and male figures are shown facing each other, in the rite just before their sexual encounter.”

After extensive chemical tests, Dr Arye Shimron says he has linked the James Ossuary – a 1st-century chalk box that some believe hold the bones of Jesus' brother – to the long disputed ‘Jesus Family tomb’ in the city’s East Talpiot neighbourhood.

 

The research could have enormous ramifications as it suggests that Jesus was married, fathered a child and that a physical resurrection did not take place.

 

According to geoarcheologist Dr Shimron, the 'son of God' was buried with nine other people, including ‘Judah, son of Jesus’ and his wife, named Mary.

Where else but in Israel could have man come up with such a major idea to improve human life?   A study of artifacts in an ancient cave near Haifa indicates that humans first started using fire there approximately 350,000 years ago.

TABUN CAVE

The Tabun Cave, located approximately 12 miles south of Haifa, “is unique in that it’s a site with a very long sequence,” according to University of Haifa archaeologist Ron Shimelmitz.  

His new study examined  “step by step how the use of fire changed in the cave.”

The Tabun Cave is rich in artifacts. It was occupied intermittently from 500,000 to around 40,000 years ago.  “Researchers examined artifacts previously excavated from the site, which are mostly flint tools for cutting and scraping, and flint debris created in their manufacture,” Science magazine wrote.

PROOF OF THE EXODUS? - EGYPTIANS DISCOVER REMAINS OF ANCIENT EGYPTIAN ARMY AT THE BOTTOM OF THE GULF OF SUEZ - Egyptian archaeologist thinks this may be the same army mentioned in the Bible's Exodus

Suez| Egypt’s Antiquities Ministry announced last October that a team of underwater archaeologists had discovered that remains of a large Egyptian army from the 14th century BC, at the bottom of the Gulf of Suez, 1.5 kilometers offshore from the modern city of Ras Gharib.

 

For centuries, the famous biblical account of the “Red Sea Crossing” was dismissed by most scholars and historians as more symbolic than historical.

 

The team was searching for the remains of ancient ships and artefacts related to Stone Age and Bronze Age trade in the Red Sea area, when they stumbled upon a gigantic mass of human bones darkened by age.

 

The scientists lead by Professor Abdel Muhammad Gader and associated with Cairo University’s Faculty of Archaeology, have already recovered a total of more than 400 different skeletons, as well as hundreds of weapons and pieces of armor, also the remains of two war chariots, scattered over an area of approximately 200 square meters.

 

They estimate that more than 5000 other bodies could be dispersed over a wider area, suggesting that an army of large size who have perished on the site.

This magnificient blade from an egyptian khopesh, was certainly the weapon of an important character. It was discovered near the remains of a richly decorated war chariot, suggesting it could have belonged to a prince or nobleman.

Many clues on the site have brought Professor Gader and his team to conclude that the bodies could be linked to the famous episode of the Exodus.

MYSTERIOUS ANCIENT STONE CIRCLES IN THE MIDDLE EAST - Arabs will probably blame them on a Zionist conspiracy

Mystery of Middle East's Big Circles: Ancient stone rings in the desert have left archaeologists baffled. 

Eight big circles have been recorded in west central Jordan, between Wadi el-Hasa and the edge of Shara escarpment

There is a second group, made of four Big Circles just north of Azraq Oasis in the Middle Eastern country

In addition, a more recent Big Circle was spotted on satellite imagery in 2002 near Homs in Syria

The first group of circles were first spotted from the air in the 1920s, and more recent surveys have revealed more details about their size, shape and locations

They range from between 720ft and 1,490ft (220 metres to 455 metres) in diameter and are made of stones or boulders

Some are crude circles, but others were intended to geometrically precise, said researcher Professor David Kennedy

Their purpose is not known and archaeologists will need to excavate the sites to accurately date them

However, materials suggest they range from the Early Bronze Age to the Roman period, up to the 7th century

KEEP THE PYRAMIDS, JUST GIVE US THE COLISSEUM

The Egyptian archaeological community is in a tizzy. They are accusing foreign Egyptologists of being Israeli agents hell bent on altering their history.   It seems Israel’s ultimate goal is to reclaim the Pyramids. (Sarcasm.) 

 

This charge was recently laid by Amir Gamal of the “Non-Stop Robberies” movement. It was published in Egypt’s Elaph newspaper.

 

Sue the Jews for the ten plagues!

Not long ago, Egyptian journalist Ahmad al-Gamal encouraged his government to sue the Jewish state for losses incurred during the 10 plagues, visited upon Egypt during the biblical exodus.

 

Also, the Torah claims that the Israelite slaves took Egypt’s gold with them to the Promised Land. Al-Gamal wants the gold or an equal sum in U.S. dollars – with 3500 years of compounded interest – paid by Israel to Egypt. 

 

Some of this is funny, and some of this is not. When I filmed archaeology in Egypt in 2004 for a documentary film on the biblical Exodus, the Egyptians were watching us like hawks.

In Egypt, the bible is current history. Even though the Qur’an says that the biblical Exodus is a historical fact, modern Arab regimes see Mideast history as a zero-sum game –  if it’s good for the Jews, it’s bad for the Arabs.

So any archaeology connected to the biblical Exodus is suppressed for fear that it might support Israel’s claims in the area.

 

For example, a statue discovered at Avaris in the Delta is thought by some scholars to be a representation of the biblical Joseph. Because of the possible connection with the Jewish patriarch, the statue has now “disappeared” from the Cairo museum. It wasn’t easy for the statue to disappear, since it weighs a ton.
