The Saudi Arabian government is planning to sue a Twitter user who compared the Kingdom to ISIS over plans to execute a Palestinian poet who abandoned his Muslim faith.

Saudi justice officials have not officially said what they want to do to the social media user who was outraged over plans to kill Ashraf Fayadh.

 

Local newspaper Al-Riyadh quoted a government source who said: 'The justice ministry will sue the person who described ... the sentencing of a man to death for apostasy as being "ISIS-like".'

 

However, criticising the Saudi regime within the Kingdom is particularly dangerous as it is regarded as a serious criminal offence with especially harsh penalties. 

The un-named Twitter user was commenting on the death sentence handed down to Palestinian poet Ashraf Fayadh who was arrested by the country's religious police in 2013 in Abha, south west Saudi Arabia.

This time last year, Tahysn was a happily married father of two little boys aged three and four and lived close to his large, extended family in the village of Shangal in Iraq's Nineveh province.

 

Now, home is a ramshackle refugee camp under the protection of Kurdish peshmerga fighters and he is grieving the loss of his wife and sons.

 

His story is far from unique. Like so many other Yazidis, his family were massacred by ISIS jihadis as they swept through northern Iraq in August. Like them, Tahysn has lost everything.

'When the Daesh (a local slang term for ISIS) came to our village, I was not there but called my family and told them to leave. It was a big shock for everybody. 
 

'They managed to escape the village but on the way to Mount Sinjar, they met Daesh. All of them were killed.'

His eyes glistening with tears, he adds: 'My older brother, my father, my mother, my wife and even my two kids were killed. All I have left of them is just one picture on my mobile phone. 

 

'The Daesh are just savages. They do not respect religion or humanity. They are not humans - even animals have more pity.'

Raising fears of renewed sectarian tensions in the region, Saudi Arabia’s top court has sentenced a charismatic opposition leader to death for speaking out against the kingdom’s ruling family.

THE MORAL BANKRUPTCY AND HYPOCRISY OF THE WEST AND MUSLIM COUNTRIES. - Quick to gang up against Israel, they are now willing to allow the massacre of thousands of Kurds while the US conducts its fake war against ISIS.

With its near complete takeover of Kabane, on the border with Turkey, ISIS is now technically within sight of Europe.   (A small part of Turkey is located within the European continent, so Turkey is considered to be part of Europe.)

 

While the White House, the media, the UN, Europe and Muslim governments clamored against Israel's operation against jihadis in Gaza this summer, ISIS was on a rampage killing Christians and other minorities by the thousands.   Nobody cared.  The world did not want to miss an opportunity to portray the Palestinians as Israel's victims.   
 

The world's pathological obsession with Israel blinds governments and humanitarian organizations to the carnage and brutality happening not only in areas dominated by ISIS, but all over the world.

 

Hardly anyone mentions, for example, that Saudi Arabia (a country regarded as "moderate" by the United States) routinely decapitates those it deems to have broken Sharia Law.    In the month of August alone the Saudis decapitated 19 victims.  Decapitations usually take place at Riyadh's Justice Square, for citizens of all ages to watch.  

 

The Saudis have one of the highest execution rates in the world - about 100 a year - with a population of less than 30 million people.   Other legal punishments include cutting off of limbs, and other barbaric atrocities.  All this done according to the law in a "moderate" Muslim country which is a close ally of the United States.
Turkey, a member of NATO, has accused Israel of genocide. 

As part of its aggressive pro-Palestinian campaign, Turkey has been repeatedly involved in launching flotillas  aimed at breaking the blockade of Gaza.  Their crews routinely include common terrorists.  

 

Today, the apparently "humanitarian" Turkish government has tanks sitting within sight of the Syrian town of Kobane, where Kurds are desperately fighting trying to prevent a massacre.

The Turkish government has denied Kurds weapons to defend themselves, and has done everything possible to prevent Kurds living in Turkey from crossing the border to fight against ISIS.   

 

Turkey, so 'compassionate' for the Palestinians and so vociferous in its call for a Palestinian state, does not want the Kurds to be better armed out of fear they may use them one day in their quest for a state of their own.

 

So now Turkey is becoming complicit with ISIS ethnic cleansing of Kurds. 

 

And the US and Britain are just as guilty of complicity, as they carry out ineffective and mostly symbolic bombings on ISIS empty buildings and vehicles.

Turkey - along with the US and other Western countries - would much prefer to see the Kurds massacred than give them weapons to defend themselves.    While they demand Israel's partition for a Palestinian state, The US, the EU, the UN and Muslim countries deny 30 million Kurds the right to their own country.

The White House recently dismissed the city of Kobane to ISIS as not strategically important enough to save.  Never mind the imminent massacre of Kurds. 

Add this to previous massacres of Kurds, Yazidis, and Christians.

Death toll of Palestinians in Syria is now 2512

Does anyone care, if they can't blame Israel?

The Action Group for Palestinians in Syria say that the number of Palestinians killed in Syria so far is 2512.

A mortar shell today on a major street in Yarmouk stopped the distribution by UNRWA of food for the besieged group. It is unclear who fired the shell, the Palestinian PFLP-GC group is fighting on the same side as the Syrian regime in the area of the camp.

Another pro-Syrian Army Palestinian group fighting in the cap is called the Al Quds Brigades.

The media seems strangely uninterested in the plight of Palestinians in Syria.

The group also quoted a source as saying that 4,223 Palestinians had managed to be smuggled to Italy in recent months, mostly from Syria and Egypt but also some from Gaza.

HOW THE WEST GETS IT WRONG ABOUT ISLAM - It is defending a powerful ideology but betraying its victims.

A rare occurrence:  a public discussion about the truth of Islam

Everybody is getting into the act of defending Islam.  Recently it was actor Ben Affleck.  He sparred against comedian Bill Maher - who hates all religions, by the way.  And then the media lit up with strong reactions, including serious editorials.

These were not scholars discussing the issue.  They were an actor and a comedian.   But they were taken seriously enough, perhaps because there is such a fear of public discussion about the issue.

 

The subsequent media debate centered on Islam and Islamophobia, but again it missed the point:  standing up for the real victims.

(While I will use the term "liberal" to refer to the most fervent defenders of Islam in the West, it's a fact that even our most conservative citizens go out of their way not to say anything critical of Islam as a religion.  If they dare to express such an opinion, they will preface it with a disclaimer assuring us that they are not referring to Islam per se, but to the fanatics who misunderstand it.) 

Liberals defend Islam, while they denigrate other religions

 

Well-meaning liberals vehemently defend Islam as a religion of peace - even though they know very little about it.  They don't mind, however, denigrating Christians and dismissing their rights. 

 

If they have read the Koran at all, it's in the whitewashed English version for Western liberal consumption.  The real thing, the Arabic version of the Koran and the Hadith, are specific as to what Islam is truly about:  not a religion of peace but one of conquest and forced imposition of Sharia Law on the vanquished, where non-Muslims (if allowed to live at all), and women, are completely subservient.

Moderate Islam is not the real Islam 

 

Images of a more tolerant Islam are rare, dwindling, and are nothing but deviations from true Islam. 

Lebanon used to be a moderate country.  Now it's a dysfunctional and violent place. 

Turkey, once lauded as a society tolerant of secularism, is now rapidly turning into a genuine Islamic state.

Why the sudden Muslim and Western outrage over ISIS? 

Muslim violence and abuse of human rights have been going on for many centuries and are common practice today, even among "moderate" Muslim states.

 

The West's silence

Our media and our politicians have remained silent about abuses in allied Muslim countries, while blaming excesses on "misunderstanders of Islam". 

 

A previous article on this blog exposed Western leadership's hypocrisy in denouncing ISIS but remaining silent about their Muslim allies' horrific traditions of abuse of human rights, particularly those of dissidents, and of women and children, slavery, decapitations in the name of "justice," and so on. 

 

The case of Saudi Arabia

The Saudis held at least 20 decapitations in the month of August alone - often in Justice Square, for everyone to see.  And that's only one example.  In spite of the country's record, President Bush held hands with the Saudi ruler, and President Obama bowed to him.

 

And so, why the Muslim countries' outrage over ISIS?

Some people may be perplexed as to why some fairly orthodox Muslim rulers' show such enthusiastic willingness to restrain ISIS.  (Read column by Barry Rubin explaining this - with added references - further on.)

GAZA TUNNELS WERE BUILT WITH CHILD LABOR - 160 Gaza children died while building tunnels - PALESTINIAN CORRUPTION - How Hamas leadership got rich through tunnel smuggling while the population suffers in poverty

There were 160 child worker victims in tunnel construction when the report was released in mid-2012.  The count must have risen into the hundreds since then, due to accelerated construction.

It should be emphasized that this report denouncing child fatalities in the construction of the terror tunnels came from a Palestinian source, the Institute for Palestine Studies.

(TABLET Magazine)  The Institute for Palestine Studies published a detailed report on Gaza’s Tunnel Phenomenon in the summer of 2012. It reported that tunnel construction in Gaza has resulted in a large number of child deaths.

“At least 160 children have been killed in the tunnels, according to Hamas officials”

The author, Nicolas Pelham, explains that Hamas uses child laborers to build their terror tunnels because, “much as in Victorian coal mines, they are prized for their nimble bodies”.

Human rights groups operating in Gaza raised concerns about child labor in the tunnels as far back as 2008. Hamas responded by saying it was “considering curbs.”

 

Following Operation Cast Lead in 2009 Hamas softened its position and the Interior Ministry established the Tunnel Affairs Commission (TAC) which, “In response to public concern at a rising toll of tunnel casualties, particularly of child workers…issued guidelines intended to ensure safe working conditions.”

 

No mention is made in the report of the conditions that would result for both Palestinian and Israeli children from building tunnels that would be used to launch terror attacks.

Nor does it seem that Hamas paid much subsequent attention to ensuring the safety of the child workers that it used to build the tunnels that would wind up endangering the lives of many in Gaza. On a tour of the tunnels in 2011, Pelham noted that, “nothing was done to impede the use of children in the tunnels.”

Not only are Hamas misappropriating much of the humanitarian aid supplied to Gaza—800,000 tons of cement were used to construct the terror tunnels into Israel—they are also directly exploiting and endangering Gaza’s youth in their construction and operation.

How the Hamas leadership got very rich while Palestinians got poorer

The Gaza Strip is infamously known as one of the most densely populated areas in the world. While majority of people in Gaza live close to or below the poverty line, the unemployment rate in the Strip stands near 40 percent.

According to the World Bank, a report released in November ranks the Gaza Strip as third in the Arab world in terms of poverty, coming above Sudan and Yemen. Gaza also ranks the 44^th poorest region in the world, with most African countries having a higher poverty rate than Gaza.

 

With such bleak economic conditions, a not so startling report on Ynet revealed that while millions of Gazan’s struggle to make ends meet and put food in their mouths, Hamas leaders and their associates have been wheeling and dealing in multi-million dollar deals, lining their already fattened pockets.

 

From million dollar land deals, purchasing luxury villas and trading in black market fuel from Egypt, Hamas’s recent money troubles are apparently due to the stealing and conniving of its own.

 

According to the report, former Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh has benefited tremendously from being a senior member of Hamas. Before 2006, when Hamas was not yet in power in Gaza, Haniyeh was a minor Hamas figure. After his bump up to a leadership positions, Haniyeh turned into a millionaire almost overnight.

 

“This is an unusual feat, given that he was born to a refugee family in the al-Shati refugee camp in Northern Gaza,” the report stated.

 

Haniyeh, who is known to own numerous homes in Gaza, has registered them under the names of his children in order to avoid any backlash. In 2010, Egyptian magazine Rose al-Yusef reported that Haniyeh paid a whopping $4 million for a 2,500 square meter plot of land in the beachfront city of Rimal.

 

However, where does all this wealth come from? According to the report, Haniyeh and his cronies financially benefited primarily from the “flourishing tunnel industry.” Haniyeh and other senior Hamas figures would impose a 20 percent tax on anything passing through the tunnels.

 

The tunnel industry reached its peak after the overthrow of former Egyptian dictator Hossni Mubarak. With the Muslim Brotherhood shortly after put in a position of power, Hamas and its associates were able to cultivate relationships with sympathetic Egyptian governmental leaders.

 

Khairat a-Shater, a senior member of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, personally transferred tens of millions of dollars in cash to senior Hamas members in Gaza and senior commanders from Hamas’s military wing.

 

The tunnel systems in Rafah, a town located near the Gaza-Egypt border, flourished in the fuel smuggling industry from Sinai. The fuel was subsidized by the Egyptian government and entered Gaza at low prices. However, Hamas leaders would inflate the cost of fuel for those wishing to purchase it up to eight times. Hamas members made great profit, even as fuel shortages were reported both in Gaza and Egypt.

 

During the days of the Muslim Brotherhood’s rule in Egypt, Hamas officials were no longer afraid to show off their wealth. Reports indicate that Gaza’s luxury villa market suddenly boomed, with most of them purchased by Hamas members.

 

Those Hamas leaders who were afraid to hold on to cash reinvested the funds into Egyptian businesses that had ties with the Muslim Brotherhood. In many cases, Ayman Taha, one of Hamas’s founders and a former spokesman, would handle the transactions himself.

While ties with the Muslim Brotherhood helped line the pockets of Hamas, political leader Khaled Mashal also benefited greatly. According to the report, Mashal used Hamas funds for his own purposes. Mashal is reported to have had control of a $2.6 billion fund spread out between Qatar and Egypt.

 

An accumulation of investments in various projects in the Arab and Muslim world, the money was the main source of funding for the Gaza-based terror organization. Mashal had no problem spending the group’s money as if it was his own.

 

Investments made through front companies allowed Hamas to purchase shares in various commercial companies and widely expand its real estate portfolio globally. Mashal would use the money to make personal investments registered under family and associates. Companies that are linked to Mashal in Qatar, for example, are registered to his wife and daughters.

 

One particular project in the Qatari capital of Doha is unofficially linked to Mashal. The Fadil real estate firm, who is responsible for a 27,000 square meter project constructing four towers, including office and commercial space attached to a 10,000 square meter mall, has refused to disclose its funding.

 

With the ongoing crisis in Gaza, Hamas leaders have played it safe and sought refuge in Qatar. Reports of them living in first class accommodations and literally stuffing their faces with extravagant foods have made the rounds in the media over the last week.

 

Many in Gaza and around the Arab world have expressed their anger and shame towards Hamas leaders as they fight a war from afar while those in Gaza, on the front lines, are left to fend for themselves.

DISCRIMINATION IN ISRAEL - The silence about anti-Jewish and pro-Arab bias among Leftist Jewish media, judiciary and government

The issue of blatant discrimination against Jews in Israel may come as a surprise to readers used to articles that highlight even the slightest instance of discriminatory treatment of Arabs. 

 

The media and the Arabs quite often make up incidents (it's called Pallywood), or blow them out of proportion - and that's what the media and activists concentrate on.

The truth behind all that is rather painful:  Jews are constantly being discriminated against in Israel - particularly religiously observant patriotic Jews. 

Israel's worst enemies are Jews who hate Jews.  They side with the enemy and undermine the country's safety.

Israeli Jews are profoundly divided by politics and degree of religious observance.  The Israeli secular left has such animosity against religious Jews that they would rather side with religious Muslims rather than their own brothers and sisters.

This secular pro-Arab left has a firm hold on the media, the judiciary and the government.  Israelis seem to be habituated to the notion that the Jewish majority can be routinely discriminated against by pro-Arab leftist Jews with authority and influence. 

 

Some of the extremes of the Jewish pro-Arab bias could be considered outright treason.

Judge orders the release of Arab who broke a Jewish youngster's skull with a bat

The boy was walking along with friends, stopped to urinate, and then was attacked by a neighborhood Arab.  He suffered a depressed skull fracture, wounds to his scalp and intracranial hemorrhaging, and ended up in hospital.

While Judge Rivka Feldman-Friedman of the Jerusalem District Court acknowledged that the evidence was clear against Yusuf Huleisi, and yet despite the evidence and Huleisi's past criminal record, she ordered to release him to house arrest in the Jerusalem Arab-majority neighborhood Jabel Mukaber.

 

The prosecuting attorney requested to appeal the decision, but took back the request several hours later. (Why?)

 

Attorney Itamar Ben-Gvir, who represents one of the Jewish youth attacked in the incident for the Honenu legal aid organization, noted earlier in the month how things would have been different if the Jews had been the attackers instead.

 

"The entire agenda in Israel would have been busy only on this issue," argued Ben-Gvir. "The media would have spread on thick the red titles, the police would be conducting arrests, and (Justice Minister) Tzipi Livni and (President) Shimon Peres and even the prime minister would have been condemning it."

There is no evidence, no trial and no judicial process. 

 

Most significantly, according to Louis Rene Beres, renowned Professor of International Law, “The point of these orders, of course, has been to quash anti-government dissent in various West Bank (Judea/Samaria) Jewish communities. Designated recipients are not informed as to the precise reason for the orders, nor have they any formal right of appeal.”

How Israeli police and army were indoctrinated in brutality by a team of psychologists prior to expulsions of Jews from their homes

 

A report entitled The Mental Preparation for the Disengagement and its Aftermath in the IDF sheds light on the intense preparations that took place. ('Disengagement' = the expulsion of Jews from their homes.)

 

“To execute robotic responses [by IDF soldiers] in a precision-like fashion, southern military commander Dan Harel appointed a team of psychologists to ‘transform’ the soldiers’ thought processes,” says the report.

 

 a series of psychological exercises “planned to ‘release’ the soldiers from their conscience by carrying out exercises in emotional disconnect.” The psychologists’ notes on those exercises are detailed in the journal Military Psychology (No. 5, December 2006).

 

The case of Akiva Vitkin (also see next article on this page)

 

Akiva Vitkin’s story began at a non-violent protest. As the 19-year old sat in the streets of Ramat Gan protesting the expulsion, three police officers sat on top of him and pretended to handcuff him. Tuvia Lerner of National News Network had stopped his car nearby and caught the incident on film.

 

“Another police officer approached Akiva from behind, leaned towards his head, stuck his fingers in Akiva’s nostrils and pulled violently upwards and backwards.  Akiva was dragged to a police car while he was bleeding from his mouth, nose and eyes.”

 

At the Ramat Gan police station afterwards, Vitkin was taken into a room where a witness observed four policemen beating him with their fists and knocking him to the floor before the door was closed. Akiva emerged with his face swollen and bloody, barely able to walk.

Police forced to compensate victim for the savage attack they inflicted on peaceful protestor Akiva Vitkin

 

2011  - The protestor, Akiva Vitkin, was detained by police was attacked twice: the first time was by riot police officer Eran Naim, who stuck his fingers in Vitkin’s nostrils and pulled his head backward, leaving Vitkin with facial injuries and bleeding.

 

Vitkin was beaten a second time by riot policeman Eliran Avraham after he was arrested and taken to the police station. Avraham badly beat Vitkin while he was shackled in an interrogation room.

2014 Report - Increased Police corruption and brutality in Israel

Attorney Pini Fischler of the Ometz government watchdog group has published the group’s monthly report on the Israel Police.   The report indicates that police violence against innocent citizens is increasingly a problem, Fischler declared. 

He pointed to the growing sums of money that police have been ordered to pay as compensation to people who were wrongly arrested and in cases where officers wrongly used physical violence, or made unnecessary use of tasers.

 

To this point, police have paid roughly 100 million shekels in compensation, he said – and the report indicates that police will need to pay another 30 million in 2013 alone.

 

The report also analyzed various investigations into police violence conducted by the police’s own Internal Investigations unit, and court cases centering on police violence.

 

He clarified that he does not see the Israel Police as a whole as a corrupt organization. However, he said, corruption has gone beyond the “few bad apples” seen in the past.
