Out of this world! The amazing volcanic hydrothermal fields in Ethiopia that look like the landscape of an alien planet
  • Though named a volcano, Dallol is actually a hydrothermal field located in the northern Danakil Depression
  • Explosion crater was formed by the intrusion of basaltic magma in Miocene salt deposits and hydrothermal activity
  • Dallol was recently photographed by self-proclaimed 'Lava Hunter' Adrian Rohnfelder, visiting from Germany
  • Dallol is actually a hydrothermal field located in the northern Danakil Depression, despite being known as Dallol Volcano

UNIQUE PHOTO OF LIGHTNING EXPLODING ABOVE A RAINBOW - And other picturesque scenes in English countryside,

Storm-chasing photographer Jamie Russell captured the incredible split-second moment that lightning struck above a rainbow over Culver Beach, on the Isle of Wight

Thick fog and low clouds rolled across parts of the West Country and East Midlands this morning before sunrise.  Temperatures plummeted to as low as -2C in parts of the nation, as the UK awoke to a frosty Sunday.  The cold conditions were blasted away as the sun rose, creating majestic views in Somerset and Derbyshire.  But the picturesque sights will be just a memory tomorrow, with 50mph winds and driving rain set to batter the South
It was not a bad morning for a jaunt across the moors in Derbyshire today, where the sun rose over frosty fields

MAGICAL IMAGES INSIDE THE WORLD'S BIGGEST CAVE - This hidden world has its own river and rainforest

Hang Son Doong in Vietnam was created 2-5 million years ago by river water eroding away the limestone underneath the mountain where the limestone was weak, the ceiling collapsed creating huge skylights.

AERIAL PICTURES OF WORLD CITIES AND OTHER SITES - AS YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN THEM BEFORE

English maze, Wiltshire - (Daily Mail, Alamy)
The most vivid imaginations would do well to dream up some of the stunning, and at times perplexing, patterns and colours found when we take a bird's eye view of some of the world's most majestic cities and remote landscapes.

The Swakopmund Saltworks at the edge of the Namib Desert looks more like Mars than anything found on Earth while rice paddies in Madagascar resemble the world of a skilled cake decorator.

New York's Central Park is an oasis for those who frequent the Big Apple, and an awesome site from above where we realise the full extent of its imprint on skyscraper-packed Manhattan.

Iconic sights often shine from any angle, but it's especially the case from above when it comes to the walled Old City in Dubrovnik and Paris at twilight as The Arc de Triomphe becomes the focal point of the skyline...

Stunning snaps taken from the window seat show the earth's beauty from thousands of feet in the air

THE ULTIMATE SELFIES - PLACING ONESELF IN FANTASTIC WILDERNESS SETTINGS

Paul Zizka, 34, has put his own slant on the celebrity-led photographic genre, made popular by photo-sharing website Instagram, by including his silhouette in dramatic shots of the Canadian wilderness.  Rather that a vainglorious attempt to propel himself to 15 minutes of internet fame, his inclusion of himself in the shots is an attempt to show the relationship between a mere man and the awesome natural world surrounding him.
