The article by Elise Cooper that I post further on this page is well intentioned but it makes me cringe, and I post it with reluctance. In a world full of depraved and violent cultures that take their right to life and to a country of their own for granted, it is sad to see Israelis once again trying to justify their existence by reminding us of their many accomplishments.
- Jews are the ONLY people on this planet who are expected to justify their existence.
- Israel the ONLY country in the world with thousands of years of proven historical and legal right to their ancient land whose people are still regarded as 'occupiers'.
- Every so often we see articles such as the one by author Elise Cooper listing Israel's accomplishments that bring to all mankind. Articles such as hers seem to be an attempt to justify its existence.
- What makes these achievements all the more remarkable is that modern Israel is almost 70 years old. It had to build itself from scratch, literally draining swamps and making the desert bloom - all the while fighting enemies from within and outside its borders.
- Israelis have defended themselves three times against a coalition of Arab countries intent on inflicting another Holocaust on the tiny nation (1948, 1967 and 1973). The threat is ever present, particularly now from bellicose and nuclear Iran.

- In spite of all this, Israel carries on. It is a hub of medical and technological innovation and scientific discoveries - an island of civilization in a sea of backwardness and savagery all around.
- Even the strongly anti-Semitic Nobel Prize Committee has acknowledged this, and it awarded Israelis a dozen Nobel Prizes so far.
- Israel boasts of its respect for the rights of women, all religions, homosexuals, and how it even tolerates free speech by individuals and organizations calling for the end of Israel and the killing of Jews.
- In a quest for being liked and accepted by a world that will never like and accept the Jews, Israel adopts policies and attitudes that are downright self-destructive in the long run, such as their willingness to partition the country for an imaginary peace with Muslims who have been in a war of conquest and terror since the 7th century.
Israel puts the reality of Israel's vulnerability and the thousands years of anti-Jewish hatred and violence aside, to dream of land for peace and international acceptance.
- When Israel withdrew from Gaza it gifted the Arabs with state-of-the-art greenhouses, ideal for growing food in an arid land. Once the Arabs took over, they looted and destroyed the greenhouses and started building rockets and terror tunnels instead. - In the meantime Israel continues to be in a permanent state of probation, not yet embraced as a member by the family of nations - and always explaining and apologizing for every little gesture of self-defence.
- It's as if Israelis are merely tolerated in their tiny little ghetto called Israel because of western embarrassment at centuries of pogroms and genocide, and the blood of millions in the killing fields of Europe, and so in 1948 they allowed Jewish survivors to reconstitute their ancient state of Israel.
- Something European countries and the USA regret it so much that they generously fund the genocidal Palestinian Arabs, and agitate in favor of the Two States Final Solution.
- So Israel continues to explain and justify why Jews and Israel should be allowed to exist. Therefore it is with mixed feelings that I post another article justifying the existence of Israel.
Eric Hoffer, a social philosopher who first worked the docks as a longshoreman wrote nine books and won the U.S. Presidential Medal of Freedom. He wrote the following Op-Ed many years ago, but it's just as relevant today.

The Jews are a peculiar people: things permitted to other nations are forbidden to the Jews.
Everyone insists that Israel must take back every single Arab. Arnold Toynbee calls the displacement of the Arabs an atrocity greater than any committed by the Nazis.
Other nations when victorious on the battlefield dictate peace terms. But when Israel is victorious, it must sue for peace. Everyone expects the Jews to be the only real Christians in this world.
Other nations — when they are defeated — survive and recover, but should Israel be defeated it would be destroyed. Had Nasser triumphed last June he would have wiped Israel off the map and no one would have lifted a finger to save the Jews. No commitment to the Jews by any government, including our own, is worth the paper it is written on.
There is a cry of outrage all over the world when people die in Vietnam or when two Negroes are executed in Rhodesia.
But when Hitler slaughtered Jews no one remonstrated with him. The Swedes, who are ready to break off diplomatic relations with America because of what we did in Vietnam, did not let out a peep when Hitler was slaughtering Jews. They sent Hitler choice iron ore and ball bearings, and serviced his troop trains to Norway.
The Jews are alone in the world. If Israel survives it will be solely because of Jewish efforts. And Jewish resources. Yet at this moment Israel is our only reliable and unconditional ally.
We can rely more on Israel than Israel can rely on us. And one has only to imagine what would have happened last summer had the Arabs and their Russian backers won the war to realize how vital the survival of Israel is to American and the West in general.
I have a premonition that will not leave me; as it goes with Israel so will it go with all of us. Should Israel perish the holocaust will be upon us.
If it weren't for Israel...
September marked the beginning of the Jewish New Year and ends with Yom Kippur, known as the "Ten Days of Awe," a period of introspection. People throughout the world, not just Jews, need to consider: if it weren't for Israel, the world would be a much less safe place.
No one should forget that in June 1981, a surprise Israeli air strike destroyed an Iraqi nuclear power plant.
If not for this courageous attack, al-Qaeda could have gained control of a nuclear arsenal in 2014 when it asserted control over the western Iraqi city of Fallujah, as it raised its flag over government buildings and declared an Islamic state in this crucial area.
Then, in 2007, it was déjà vu as Israel destroyed the Syrian nuclear plant.
As Vice President Dick Cheney previously told American Thinker, after seeing the photographs taken by Israeli intelligence, he pushed for U.S. air strikes to destroy the Syrian reactor, the al-Kibar complex. But the Bush administration refused to act, forcing Israel to go it alone and destroy the reactor.
