This is how Islam treats Christian women.  But human rights organizations and feminists have been unusually quiet during her ordeal.

This brave physician tells the audience that she still needs their prayers.  Although traumatized by her long ordal, she now has to adapt to a new country, a new culture, and raise her two children.

She stressed that she is not the only woman treated this way in Sudan and in other Muslim countries.   There are many Meriams like me, she said.

Breitbart - Meriam Ibraheem, a Sudanese woman sentenced to death for converting to Christianity reported that officials at the US Embassy in Sudan initially “refused to deal with” her.

MERIAM IBRAHIM FREE AT LAST - Arrives with family in Rome - She had been condemned to death by Sudan for marrying a Christian

Meriam Ibrahim meets Pope Francis with her daughter Maya in her arms, in his Santa Marta residence, at the Vatican. The Christian mother was put on death row for refusing to become a Muslim
The Sudanese woman who was sentenced to death for "apostasy" and made to give birth with her legs chained together in jail has finally escaped the country on an Italian government plane.

TV footage showed Meriam Ibrahim and her family arriving at Rome's Ciampino airport alongside the Italian deputy foreign minister, after her case triggered outrage and condemnation around the world.

Meryam Ibrahim had been stuck inside the US embassy in Sudan for a month and had been expected to travel at some point to America, where her husband has citizenship.

Despite quashing her death sentence last month, the Sudanese government had blocked her from leaving the country with her husband and two small children, claiming her travel documents were "falsified".  She and her baby, who was born in prison, were blessed by the pope.

Photo below shows Meriam Ibrahim and her two children, arriving in Rome, and Italian Deputy Foreign Minister Lapo Pistelli who was there to give her and her family an official welcome (Both photos AP and Daily Mail).  Her husband was also on that flight.

    Previous Daily Mail report:
A 27-year-old woman sentenced to death last month for converting from Islam to Christianity in Sudan has been freed from prison and sent to a safe house for her own protection.

The case of Meriam Ibrahim, who is married to a Christian American, triggered an international outcry. She gave birth to a baby daughter while in prison.  'The appeal court ordered the release of Mariam Yahya and the cancellation of the (previous) court ruling,' Sudan's SUNA news agency said. The couple's 20-month-old son was also held in prison with Ms Ibrahim and her newborn daughter.

Her lawyer Shareif Ali Shareif confirmed to MailOnline that she had been released after the court of appeal in Khartoum accepted her appeal and overturned the death sentence.

'She has been released from prison and she is on her way home with the children,' he said.  'She is very happy and the children are fine.   'Her husband Daniel Wani is overjoyed. He is so happy he is almost crying.'  He added that for now she was staying in Khartoum.

MERIAM IBRAHIM'S HUSBAND APPEALS FOR SUPPORT - Meriam has been condemned to 100 lashes and to be hanged for marrying a Christian in Sudan - She just gave birth in jail and is kept in shackles

Daniel and Mariam - Daily Mail photo
Daniel Wani says he hopes international outcry will lead to conviction of his wife Meriam Ibrahim being overturned

The Guardian - The prime minister and other political leaders have added their voices to the campaign to lift the death sentence given to Meriam Ibrahim, a Sudanese woman sentenced to hang for apostasy.  (Meriam is a physician and Daniel is a biochemist with US citizenship.)

Daniel & Maya - Daily Mail photo
David Cameron's announcement came after Ibrahim's husband, Daniel Wani, appealed for global support to free his wife from death row, where she is being held with her two young children after giving birth in shackles this week.  Cameron said he was "absolutely appalled" when he heard of the decision.

"The way she is being treated is barbaric and has no place in today's world. Religious freedom is an absolute, fundamental human right," he said. His words were echoed by Ed Miliband, Nick Clegg and Tony Blair. Blair said it was a "brutal and sickening distortion of faith".

Wani, a US citizen since 2005, said mounting international pressure could have a significant impact on the Sudanese authorities, and he felt overwhelmed by "the way people have come together around the world" to protest against his wife's sentence. "I want to thank everyone for this stand. It's looking like it had an effect. Perhaps it will result in the judgment being overturned," he told CNN.

SUDANESE WOMAN WHO IS EIGHT MONTHS PREGNANT AND A DOCTOR TO BE FLOGGED BY MUSLIM AUTHORITIES FOR MARRYING A CHRISTIAN

UPDATE - JUDGE REJECTS APPEALS FOR CLEMENCY AND SENTENCES THIS WOMAN TO BE HANGED.
BREIBART - Rejecting appeals for clemency by Western human rights activists, a judge in Sudan sentenced a 27-year-old pregnant Christian mother to death for "apostasy".

Mariam Yahia Ibrahim Ishag, brought her punishment of death upon herself, said Judge Abbas Mohammed Al-Khalifa: "We gave you three days to recant but you insist on not returning to Islam."  "I sentence you to be hanged to death." For good measure, Judge Khalifa ordered the woman to be beaten with 100 lashes of the whip before being hung for "adultery."

Ishag appeared to take the verdict in stride when read her sentence in a Khartoum courtroom. Before sentencing was pronounced, an Islamic religious leader allegedly spoke with Ishag in the caged dock trying again to “talk her out” of her “apostasy.”  According to witnesses, the condemned woman, rose calmly but firmly to proclaim to the judge and to the world: "I am a Christian and I never committed apostasy."

After the verdict, about 50 people demonstrated against the decision.  "No to executing Mariam," said one of their signs, while another proclaimed: "Religious rights are a constitutional right."  In a speech, one demonstrator said they would continue their activism with sit-ins and protests until she is freed.  "The details of this case expose the regime's blatant interference in the personal life of Sudanese citizens," proclaimed a Sudanese youth group called Sudan Change Now Movement in a statement on Wednesday.
Sudan’s information minister, Ahmed Bilal Osman, defended the death sentence for leaving Islam. "It's not only Sudan. In Saudi Arabia, in all the Muslim countries,” he sayd, “It is not allowed at all for a Muslim to change his religion."
