Church desecration, harassment, and violence have driven most Christians out of Bethlehem and into Israel and other countries since the Palestinians took official control over the city in 1991.

 

 

HISTORY OF BETHLEHEM IN A NUTSHELL

*  Located five miles south of Jerusalem, it was the center of the Jewish tribe of Judah and the Kingdom of Judea in ancient times. 

*  Jews were a majority in this city until the Roman conquest in the first century. 

*  The Romans were followed by other invaders and occupiers:  Muslim Arabs from the Arabian peninsula, Muslim Turks from the Ottoman Empire, and then the British from 1920 to 1948. 

*  After the Israeli war of independence, Bethlehem was occupied by Jordan, a country illegally created by the British out of Jewish land.

*  Bethlehem was liberated by Israel in 1967, only to be surrendered by Israeli politicians through the treasonous Oslo Accords in 1995.

*  Once in control of the city, Muslim Palestinians have driven most Christians out of the Palestinian Authority, while financially benefiting from international Christian tourism. 

*  As a result of Muslim harassment and violence, the Christian population of Bethlehem has shrunk from 60% to 20% (some cite as low as 10%) since 1995, with most Christians fleeing to Israel and other countries.  

*  During a  confrontation with Israeli forces in 2002, Muslim terrorists took over the Church of the Nativity. 

*  During their stay they trashed and desecrated the church, defecating everywhere and using the Bible as toilet paper (read more further down this page).

 

This VIDEO is from 2012.  Things have considerably deteriorated for Palestinian Christians since then.  With Al Qaeda and ISIS as examples, Muslims in the land of Israel too are radicalizing even more.

Thousands of Jews have been murdered by Muslims for being Jews.   Not only that, but there will be no Jews allowed in the Islamic State of Palestine, as envisioned by the Arabs, the White House, the EU, and the many organizations calling for the partition of the land of Israel to create a Muslim terror state.

 

Christian priorities. Among those activist organizations, Christian churches have been notorious for ignoring human rights horrors now being perpetrated against Christians all over the Muslim world, to obsessively focus on Israel and what they call the "occupation".

 

Christians effectively disown Jesus and their own doctrine.  Christians read, study, and quote from the Bible - which is in part the history of the Jewish people in the land of Israel - and with a straight face they declare that the land does not belong to the Jews but to the Muslim invader who conquered Jerusalem in the 7th century AD.  According to their view, Jesus would be a settler, an occupier, with no right to Jerusalem, Bethlehem, and other holy Jewish places in Israel. 

 

It gets worse.  As Muslims oppress, persecute, and even murder Christians in countries ruled by Islam (see related articles further on this page), Churches in the West have closed their hearts to Christian suffering so as not to antagonize Islam.  In the meantime they are busy organizing lectures and conferences about the Israeli "occupation," and engaging in BDS (Boycott-Divestment-Sanctions) against Israel - the only Mideast country where Christians are safe, respected, and enjoy full human rights.

 

What could be behind this?  In a nutshell, Muslims are used as a tool for Christians to deprive Jews of their land.  They hope that Muslims will eventually take over the land, even by force, unleashing a second Holocaust.  They would much rather see Jerusalem under the Muslim yoke - inaccessible to Christians - than to tolerate Jews calling the city Israel's capital.  Since Crusaders can no longer slaughter Jews, Christians have contracted out genocidal Muslims to do the job, by supporting them morally and financially.

Recent Popes have met numerous times with Muslim terrorists representing the Palestinians, and established warm relations with them because of their shared hatred against Jews and their shared plans for a Holy Land without Jews.

 

Bear in mind that under the partition plan, Biblical Jerusalem would become part of the Islamic Palestinian State.

 

A little history.  Before Israel liberated Jerusalem in the defensive war of 1967, it was Jordan that occupied the city.  Jordan could be considered one of the most moderate regimes in the Mideast.  The political forces now at work among Palestinians are much more extreme, so we can expect even harsher restrictions on Christian worship in the city were they to control it. 

 

This is what the Jordanian occupation of Jerusalem was like before its liberation by Israel in 1967 (or as Christian churches now call Israeli "occupation").

Politicizing saints against Israel

 - but not against Islam

The Pope recently canonized two Christian nuns making them "saints".  This announcement was made under big fanfare as the Pope also recognized the never-before existing Islamic State of Palestine, along with calling terrorist Mahmoud Abbas - the financial mastermind of the Munich Olympics massacre - an "angel of peace".

 

The blog Elder of Ziyon has posted more details on one of these nuns that the Vatican and the media chose to hide.

There is one fact in the life of one of the new saints, Sister Mariam Baouardy, that could be understood in a completely different context.

Betrothed in an arranged marriage at age 13, she refused to go along with it, insisting on a religious life. As punishment for her disobedience, her uncle hired her out as a domestic servant, making sure she had the lowest and most menial of jobs. A Muslim servant with whom she worked began to act as her friend with an eye to converting her from Christianity (to Islam). On 8 September 1858, Mary convinced him she would never abandon her faith; in response he cut her throat and dumped her in an alley. Mary lived, an apparition of the Virgin Mary treated her wound, and she left her uncle’s house forever.

So this Catholic saint had her throat slashed by a Muslim because she didn't want to convert to Islam.

Perhaps Sister Mariam's canonization indicates that the Catholic Church considers Islam to be a violent, intolerant religion!

• The Middle East is effectively being cleansed of Christians.

Right now, while Christians the world over are celebrating Christmas, entire communities of the followers of Christ cannot rejoice. The Middle East and parts of Africa continue to drown in rivers of blood, with various minorities being targeted by radical Islamic organizations such as ISIS, Hamas, Jabhat al-Nusra, Boko Haram, al-Qaeda, Hezbollah and others. 

The Christians there are stuck in the middle of a maelstrom of genocide and ethnic cleansing occurring on a daily basis through horrific acts of rape, crucifixion, theft, expulsion, destruction, burning of churches, forced conversions, abduction of nuns and the murder of priests, children, women and the elderly.  

Sometimes the murderers slaughter whole families, sometimes they murder some in front of the rest and then let the others live with the nightmare. People who can flee to the west, and those who can’t leave or who wih to remain must live with the danger.

Mr. President, I am speaking to you on behalf of UN Watch.

 

Standing before you is Father Gabriel Naddaf, a Christian citizen from Nazareth, the city in which Christ was raised and where he proselytized.

 

Dear Sirs, while I stand before you today, the earth of the Middle East is soaked with the blood of Christians being killed daily.

 

Do you know that at the start of the 20^th century, Christians comprised 20% of the population of the Middle East?

 

Today they comprise only 4%.

 

Do you know that over the past years some 100,000 Christians have been killed annually? And why? Not for a crime they’ve committed, but only for believing in Christ.

ARAB DIPLOMAT: PALESTINIAN CAUSE IS ABOUT DESTROYING ISRAEL - NOT A HUMANITARIAN CONCERN

George Deek is a Christian Arab from the ancient Mediterranean city of Jaffa.   He is also deputy to Israeli Druze poet and academic Naim Araidi, who currently serves as Israel’s ambassador to Norway.

 

Late last month, Deek addressed a gathering hosted by the Norwegian group “With Israel for Peace.” He delivered what some in that country are calling “the best speech an Israeli diplomat ever made.”

 

 

Arab diplomat tells the truth about the Palestinian movement:

 

 

 

As an Arab with a long history in the land, Deek doesn’t sugar-coat Jewish involvement in the conflict. Atrocities were committed by all involved, and Deek is not prepared to give Israel a pass on documented wrong-doing just because the years following her victory have seen the rise of a strong democratic state where minorities like Deek and his boss, Araidi, enjoy full and equal rights.

 

But, Deek is left to wonder why disproportionate attention was and continues to be paid to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict when far more severe crises have raged and still are raging over the same period of time.

 

Only one conclusion can be reached by this clear-headed Arab diplomat: “The Nakba has been transformed from a humanitarian disaster to a political offensive.”

 

Most of those involved, either directly or indirectly, care far less about the actual welfare of the Palestinian Arabs than they do about demonizing and destroying Israel, he reasoned.

 

And, in the process, Deek lamented that “the Palestinians have become slaves to the past, held captive by the chains of resentment, prisoners in the world of frustration and hate.”

When I walk in the streets of my home town Jaffa, I am often reminded of the year 1948.

The Alleys of the old city, the houses in Ajami neighborhood, the fishing nets at the port – they all seem to tell different stories about the year that has changed my city forever.

One of those stories is about one of the oldest families in this ancient city – the Deek family – my own.

Before 1948 my grandfather George, after whom I’m named, worked as an electrician, at the Rotenberg Electricity Company.  He was not very interested in politics.

THE PERSECUTION OF CHRISTIANS BY MUSLIM PALESTINIANS - And their steady disappearance from ancient holy land - Official Muslim discrimination, harassment and violence has driven them away

• The Palestinian Authority (PA) rules over Arabs living in Judea and Samaria (West Bank).  This was the result of the US-instigated Oslo Accords of the early 1990s.
• Although not an independent country, it has its own government, judiciary, and police.
• A set of laws concerns Dhimmis,  - Christians and other non-Muslims living in a subservient status, and subject to discriminatory regulations. 
• Once Muslims invaded the land of Israel in the 7th century, they tried to force conversion on the inhabitants of the land (Jews and Christians) and imposed Islam's dhimmi laws on them.
• Because, under dhimmi laws, non-Muslims under Muslim rule may not testify against Muslims, it is virtually impossible for Christians to use the judicial system to recover lands and property stolen by Muslims.
• The erosion of the Christian presence has peaked under Palestinian Authority rule. 
• Bethlehem went from 60% Christian in the 1990s to just 10% today.  
• In the meantime, Christian population inside Israel continues to grow and has now reached approximately 140,000. 
• In spite of factual evidence of persecution of Christians by Muslims in the Palestinian Authority, Christian churches in the West continue with their vicious campaign of demonization and boycotts against Israel.

Holy Land: The Perils Facing Christians

"All this talk about Israel being behind the pain of Christians in the Palestinian Territories is nonsense. Muslims intimidate us. They burn our stores, steal our real estate. They build mosques beside our churches, and make sure that the calls for prayer disrupt our services. They attack our daughters. There are many cases of rape that have never been reported. Families hide it out of shame, they move away. They flee." — Christian official.

 

Under dhimmi laws, non-Muslims under Muslim rule may not testify against Muslims, so it is virtually impossible for Christians whose lands have been stolen, or whose lives have been threatened, to appeal to the local legal system.

 

Apparently the story is only appealing when Israel can be blamed.

Greek Orthodox priest Father Gabriel Nadaf, a leader of the Aramaean Christian minority in Israel, spoke before the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) on Tuesday in a strong show of support for the Jewish state.

 

The UNHCR recently it appointed a biased committee to investigate claims of "war crimes" against Israel in Gaza, and praised the human rights "achievements" of Hamas and Islamic State (ISIS) supporter Qatar.

 

In spite of such UN bias,  Nadaf spoke firmly, calling for the world to stand by Israel against terror.

 

"Across the Middle East, in the last ten years, 100,000 Christians have been murdered each year. That means that every five minutes a Christian is killed because of his faith," reported Nadaf.

 

"Those who can escape persecution at the hands of Muslim extremists have fled. ...Those who remain, exist as second if not third class citizens to their Muslim rulers."

 

Nadaf continued "in the Middle East today, there is one country where Christianity is not only not persecuted, but affectionately granted freedom of expression, freedom of worship and security. ...It is Israel, the Jewish State. Israel is the only place where Christians in the Middle East are safe."

 

Speaking immediately after a panel discussion on the "Human Rights Situation in Palestine and Other Occupied Arab Territories," Nadaf called "it is time the world woke up to the fact that those who want to destroy the Jewish State are signing the death warrant on the last free Christians in the Holy Land."

 

"Leaders of people, seekers of peace, end your witch hunt of the only free country in the region," said Nadaf, throwing the gauntlet at the feet of the UNHRC.

 

Father Nadaf, a native of Nazareth who heads the Greek Orthodox Church in Yafia near his hometown, has advocated a strong connection to Israel and IDF service for Christian citizens - despite stiff opposition from the official Greek Orthodox church and Arab MKs.

 

That condemnation has gone as far as the Greek Orthodox patriarchate in Israel banning him from entering Nazareth's Basilica of the Annunciation, and repeatedly threatening to dismiss him from his Yafia post.

 

Arab MKs have also condemned him, calling him “an agent of Zionism who seeks to divide Arabs.” Nadaf has revealed he has also been threatened with violence, and even death - but he insists that he represents a sizable portion of the Christian Israeli community.

 

"We feel secure in the state of Israel," Nadaf has said, "and we see ourselves as citizens of the state with all the attendant rights as well as obligations."

 

Father Nadaf's trip to Geneva was arranged by The Face of Israel, a private organization promoting Israel internationally.

Which makes perfect sense, since Arabs from the Arabian peninsula invaded and conquered the land of Israel in the 7th century, forcing Islam on its inhabitants.  Those Arabs were followed by Muslim Turks and more Arabs during the Ottoman Occupation.

Today Palestinian Muslims threaten and harass Christians so much that most of them have left the Palestinian Territories and Gaza.

 

Israel National News - 130,000 of Israel's 160,000 Christians, hitherto registered as Arabs, are expected to re-register as Aramaeans; their leaders are ecstatic.

 

Interior Minister Gideon Saar has instructed the Population, Immigration and Border Authority (PIBA) to allow the registration of a new nationality – Aramaean – in the identity cards of Christian citizens who were registered as Arabs until now.

CHRISTIAN ARABS DEMONSTRATE IN FAVOR OF ISRAEL - "ISRAEL IS OUR SAFE HAVEN"

Some 150 Israeli Arabic-speaking Christians on Sunday demonstrated outside the EU mission in Tel Aviv, demanding that the international community stop nitpicking against Israel and start combatting the severe persecution of Christians everywhere else in the Middle East.

Israel Today “Nations, organizations and international missions are quick to raise an accusing finger against Israel at every opportunity,” said Father Gabriel Nadaf, spiritual father of the Israeli Christian Recruitment Forum, which organized the rally. Those same nations and organizations “don’t life a finger against the ethnic cleansing of Christians in the Middle East,” the priest continued.

 

Father Nadaf went on to explain that from Syria to Egypt to Iraq to the Palestinian Authority, Christians on a daily basis suffer intimidation, harassment, desecration, coercion, torture, rape, physical abuse and murder. “According to the statistics, a Christian is murdered every five minutes [in the Middle East], and the Western world is silent about this,” he lamented.

In messages posted to its Facebook page during the Tel Aviv rally, the Israeli Christian Recruitment Forum insisted that “there is no place but Israel that is safe for Christians in the Middle East!”

While the rally was largely ignored by the mainstream Western media, the Israeli press took great interest, and forum spokesman Shadi Khalloul, a veteran of the IDF, was interviewed by various television and print media outlets. Khalloul has spoken numerous times with Israel Today regarding the Christian awakening within Israel, and the bonds of brotherhood than bind local Christians to the Jewish people and the Jewish state.

Last month, Israel’s Knesset took the first important step toward recognizing local Christians as an independent minority separate from the Arab Muslims. Both Nadaf and Khalloul say this is necessary, since local Christians were here before the Arab Muslim conquest around 600 AD.

A growing number of Israelis, including lawmakers and opinion shapers, are likewise waking up to the strong Christian minority in their midst, a minority that has been long neglected, but which is now beginning to boldly take its place alongside the Jews..

Neither Israel, nor those whose acknowledge its right to exist, are to blame for the suffering of Christians in the Middle East.

The reality is that Israeli is the safest place in the Middle East for Arab Christians. A September 30, 2013 column by Steve Apfel in The Commentator notes that “in 1949, Israel had 34,000 citizens of that faith [Christian]. Today the number is 168,000.” Exclaiming over the irony that although Israel is the only country in the Middle East where Christians are protected and thriving, Western Christians are more focused on condemning Israel and championing the cause of Palestine (including those Palestinians that are killing their co-religionists), Apfel writes:

If Muslims are off limits and  sacrosanct; you’re allowed to say what you like about Jews, provided you call them Israelis or, better yet, Zionists. And you can write a made–to-order record of that people, replete with blood libels, ethnic cleansing, Apartheid and all manner of crimes a Jew can inflict upon humanity. Say about Zionists or Israelis whatever you like, only avoid the fatal ‘J– word trap.’

In a gentler vein, Israel’s Ambassador to the United States, Michael Oren, also wrote in a March 2012 Wall Street Journal opinion editorial, quoted byArutz Sheva, that Israel has become the only safe haven for Christians in the Middle East. This is not an idle boast – Oren based his statement on facts concerning the treatment of Christians and their increasing flight from the ancestral homelands where they were once the majority population.

 

Twenty percent of the  population of the Middle East was Christian a century ago according to Oren. Today only five percent are Christians, with the numbers continuing to go down, he continued. But he was writing in early 2012, before the most recent pogroms against Christians throughout Egypt by the Muslim Brotherhood and Salafists, and the intensified victimization of Syrian Christians by the Obama administration-supported jihadists of the Free Syrian Army.

Strikingly, although Arab Christians “are granted full rights and privileges within Israel’s borders, the treatment they receive by the ‘Palestinian’ population is quite different,” Oren said.

He said that “since the Hamas takeover of Gaza in 2007, half the Christian community has fled.” In the Palestinian state, “Christmas decorations and public displays of crucifixes are forbidden,” Oren revealed. What’s more, ”In a December 2010 broadcast, Hamas officials exhorted Muslims to slaughter their Christian neighbors,” the Ambassador reported. 

 

Although you would never hear it from the anti-Israel Left, Christians are persecuted and forced to convert to Islam in the Hamas-controlled Gaza strip. It has nothing to do withanyone’s perspective on Israel.  In July 2012 CBN News reported that Christian men, women, and sometimes whole families, were disappearing for extended periods of time and then there would be an announcement that they had converted to Islam and they would reappear with armed people around them for “protection.”

 

One especially brutal case was the kidnapping and murder of Arab Christian, Rami Ayad, in October 2007. The Guardian reported how the body of Ayad, who worked in Gaza’s only Christian bookstore, was found in the street. He had multiple stab wounds and had been shot in the head. 

 

The reaction of Arab Christians living in Israel to the treatment of Christians elsewhere in the Middle East demonstrates the difference in their situation. The July 2013 Israel Today article reported that in Israel, ”local Arabs see what is happening across the Middle East and realize that Israel is the only place in the region where Christians can feel safe and belong.

 

The paper quoted Arab Christian Moran Khaloul who said,”We don’t live in Syria, where Christians are not allowed to speak…or in Iraq, where churches are bombed. We live in a Jewish state, which is democratic and free. As Israeli Christians we see ourselves as part of this state and not as part of those who oppose it.” 

 

The  Israel Today report also told of the growing number of Arab Christians that are serving in the Israeli Defense Force (IDF), saying ”For a number of years now, a group of Nazareth Christians who are officers in the Israeli army have been actively recruiting young local Arabs to follow in their footsteps and serve the Jewish state.” Many Arab politicians oppose Arab participation in Israel’s defense forces for fear it will “legitimize the existence of the Jewish state (which pays their paychecks).” But, as one Arab Christian said, “more and more of us are realizing that there is no other country here that is worth fighting for.

Arab Christians are becoming increasingly emboldened. The paper reveals that some “even refer to themselves openly as ‘Israeli Christians.’” And one teenager who plans to join the IDF explained that “Ultimately, from a religious point of view, we are one. Jesus was a Jew, his mother was a Jew, and his 12 disciples were Jews.”

 

But guess what? To point out the difference between Israel’s civilized, respectful treatment of Christians and the savage, supremacist treatment they receive elsewhere in the Middle East that is causing the region to be emptied of Christians is. . . Islamophobia!
