  • These stunning shots may look like alien landscapes but they were actually taken in the deserts of south-western USA.
  • British photographer David Clapp travelled to Arizona, Utah, Nevada and New Mexico to capture landscapes for a photographic series on 'otherworldly' locations across the world.
  • And as these images reveal, it can be a remote and barren land.
An infra-red image taken at dusk of strange clay formations in Ah-Shi-Sle-Pah Wilderness in Farmington, New Mexico, is just one of the many bizarre landscapes photographed by David Clapp

Is this the world's most colourful mountain range? Surreal photos make Argentinian peaks look like Vincent Van Gogh painting

Besides the fantastic natural formation at Serrania del Hornocal, you can find remains of human settlements which are estimated to be 10,000 years old

  • Photographer Kevin Zaouali shot the ethereal landscapes at the Hornocal mountain range, near the Bolivian border
  • The striking mountains are made up of eleven different rock layers which give the effect of a rainbow of reds
  • Besides the natural formation, the area boasts remains of human settlements estimated to be 10,000 years old
