HERO HUNGARIAN DOG SAVES WOMAN FROM FIRE set alight by her own ex-partner

A Hungarian woman has had her life saved by her hero dog after being savagely set on fire by her ex-partner.

The case, which took place on 24 August 2014 but has been disclosed by the local prosecutor’s office in a statement only now, saw an 51-year-old man set fire to a blanket covering his sleeping ex-partner in the village of Nagybánhegyes, Békés county, southeastern Hungary.

The woman was saved from certain death only by her small mixed breed dog whining and pulling her hand until she woke up.

The man’s five-year relationship with the woman was tainted by constant arguments and physical violence. Even after the pair broke up, he continued harassing and threatening his ex-partner while drunk.

The near-fatal night of 24 August saw the man cycle to her house, enter the bedroom, light a cigarette and set fire to the sleeping woman’s blanket.

According to the prosecutor’s office, the woman’s life was saved from certain suffocation within 10-15 minutes only by the hero pet.

The man has been charged with attempt to murder with particular cruelty, for which he could be handed a life sentence.
