Smithsonian Zoo Otters - Huffington Post

They would much rather be playing in freedom in the wild, but that's life. Otters love to have fun, even in captivity. They take things as they come and make the best of it.

Huffington Post - Otters don't have to be the most musically talented sea creatures out there; they just have to be ridiculously cute. In their 32-second musical debut, a cage of Asian small-clawed otters at Smithsonian's National Zoo in Washington, D.C., attempt to master the keyboard.

According to the zoo's YouTube channel, the otters were given the choice of playing on the keyboard or just sitting back and enjoying the show. Either way, this is absolutely adorable. As part of the zoo's #ZooEnrichment program, animals are taught to play with their creative sides, engaging in activities that challenge their sight, touch and hearing senses.

Earlier today, the zoo posted another video of Bonnie the orangutan playing the xylophone like a pro — seriously, she's probably better than most human xylophone players. Animal enrichment is also used to provide stimulating environments for animals to demonstrate their species' typical behaviour. And as cool as it may be to see zoo animals doing very "human things," all of these activities are meant to enhance their well-being.
