Cat photographed in desperate bid to escape from Chinese butcher is saved by American animal shelter
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Stories like these make the news, but the real solution to this barbaric custom would involve a COORDINATED INTERNATIONAL EFFORT, and so far there is none. So we read stories of individual rescues, all very laudable but meaning very little as the torture and killing of dogs and cats happens in the millions each year.
Some publicized rescues may be used as ways for raising money for animal charities. But so far there is no effective organized advocacy to persuade China and other countries such as South Korea and Vietnam to clamp down on the torture and skinning of animals while alive, for their use in the fur trade and traditional cuisine.
Daily Mail - A cat used one of its nine lives after a charity saved it from being slaughtered by a Chinese butcher.
The controversial Yulin Dog and Cat Meat Festival in China claims the lives of thousands of stray or stolen animals each year.
This year, a small white cat was photographed climbing the side of the horrific slaughterhouse enclosure, while dozens of other felines sat in the overcrowded space.
However the Human Society International's rescue workers made sure that her life did not end there after spotting the cat named Huru.
At the very last moment, they saved her life and a few other lucky cats and dogs.
Huru has been cleaned up and is now recovering at the Washington Animal Rescue League.
'Huru was destined for a tragic end at the Yulin Dog and Cat Meat Festival in China.
'Today, Huru has found a new life in the caring arms of the Washington Animal Rescue League.'
Huru will spend some time adjusting to her new life and then be looking for a loving family.
According to the Humane Society, as many as 10 million dogs are killed for food annually in China, with up to 10,000 killed for the Yulin festival.
The 'festival' is held to mark the beginning of the summer solstice and was created in 2010 as a way for dog meat traders to boost their flagging business.
Many of the dogs and cats slaughtered are stolen pets who are transported to the event site over several days, often without food and water, according to the Humane Society.
PUPPY IN CHINA LOVINGLY PLEADS FOR ATTENTION MINUTES BEFORE BEING SKINNED ALIVE AND COOKED
Playfully pawing at a man's leg, a puppy begs for attention as most young pets would do. At first glance, this could be any cherished canine simply craving more love from a distracted owner.
But this is far from a walk round the park – this poor puppy is about to die a barbaric death at a vile dog meat festival that has sparked outrage around the world.
He is one of thousands of canines that will be skinned alive, butchered and eaten as the market in China got underway amid clashes with protesters.
As many as 10,000 dogs, many of them stolen pets, are slaughtered for the market held deep in the largely rural and poor Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region to mark the summer solstice.
