Port Authority vehicles at LaGuardia Airport honor Trump’s plane with ‘water salute’

President-elect Donald Trump's plane was given a "water salute" before it departed New York's LaGuardia Airport for Washington, D.C.

Firefighters at LaGuardia Airport gave Donald Trump's plane a two-hose "water salute" as it departed for Washington, D.C. Thursday morning — a gesture typically reserved for the President, not the President-elect.

Two Port Authority fire vehicles equipped with massive hoses sprayed a giant arch of water over Trump's personal Boeing 757 as it taxied on the LaGuardia runway before it took off.

The action, known as the "water salute," is usually used to honor Air Force One, certain military officials and, less frequently, high-profile international leaders.

Trump flew Thursday morning from New York to D.C. to meet with President Obama in the White House and with House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Capitol Hill.
