It reminds us of the film The Day After Tomorrow, and almost makes us wish for global warming.
  • Pictures of snow tunnels have been posted on social media in recent weeks
  • Canadian couple dug a 25-foot long and six-foot high tunnel in their backyard
  • Man used keys to set off his car horn to figure out which way to dig in snow
  • One tunnel in Massachusetts took ten hours to dig and measured 40 feet
  • One man is now shipping and selling 'historic Boston snow' from Bay State
  • Some diggers are choosing to go with a more open-air version of the snow tunnel this winter

A team of diggers spent ten hours digging a tunnel (pictured) to make the Wellington T station in Medford, Massachusetts, accessible to bikers and commuters

This snow tunnel probably didn't take ten hours to dig, but it is still an example of the latest winter trend

There has been so much snow in parts of North America that people have resorted to tunneling through it

When the tunnel through the snow was completed, it was about 40-feet long and big enough to bike through

Even though some of the tunnels aren't that long, they still took a lot of work to create and maintain

Many of the snow tunnels that have been dug this winter will stand until the weather starts to warm up

Dogs don't have to use tunnels to commute, but that doesn't mean they don't enjoy going through them

Humans aren't the only creatures who are embracing snow tunnels during the cold this winter

    MANHATTAN ENCASED IN ICE

Ice-encrusted: Lower Manhattan as seen from the Staten Island Ferry on February 25, 2015 as the New York Harbor is filled with large chunks of ice as the East River and Hudson freeze over

The East River is filled with ice chunks as temperatures dip to between 15 to 25 degree below average for this time of year in New York

The Brooklyn Bridge is surrounded by ice as the frozen tundra surrounds New York continues to grow as the city experiences a record breaking cold snap

Reminiscent of the film The Day After Tomorrow, where a sudden change in ocean currents freezes up the northern hemisphere.
