THE BIG FREEZE OF 2015 WAS A DUD - Forecasters WRONG about the anticipated "worst snowstorm in history" - If they can't get a 24 hour forecast right, how can they be so sure about long term predictions for Earth's climate?

North East coast of America went into unprecedented lockdown: Road and train travel banned and businesses closed as 60million people warned to stay indoors today in anticipation of deadly blizzard

But not much happened.  Just normal winter weather.  What kind of credibility can long term climate forecasters have when they can't be right on even a 24 hour forecast?

Getting ready for an erroneous forecast:
US

A fifth of U.S. population told to stay inside from fear of huge winter storm which could bury East Coast in snow

Imagine the cost for all these unnecessary preparations:
  • Driving bans, threats of arrest, canceled planes, closed railways and metro systems and tunnels froze giant cities
  • Boston and New York City were in the heart of the driving snows, which forecasters say could smash records
  • 8,000 flights to the North East were axed, while subway systems and railroads went dark Monday evening
  • Bans, backed by threats of arrests and fines of up to $500, kept people home and shut down 24-hour businesses

  • What they predicted:
  • Peak snowfall could bring more than four inches per hour, with highs of 36inches in some places
  • Mighty waves and flood waters also threaten coastal communities, with most intense weather still to come

  • Empty seats, empty streets: Broadway and the theater district of the Big Apple was closed for the evening as the huge blizzard hit the United States Eastern seaboard

Blowing in: The storm is seen above from space at 5.45pm New York time. The worst has not yet hit

Historic and empty: Pedestrians walk through the Boston Common as the snow from the major winter storm hit the Massachusetts city

Concrete canyons of snow: New York City's streets were empty for the first time since Superstorm Sandy caused havoc in 2012

Empty metropolis: The Big Apple's streets were ghostly and deserted as the huge blizzard hit the Eastern Seaboard

Frozen sardines: Commuters in this New York City train station were crammed in as the 11pm transport deadline drew nearer

A BIG STORM IN PARTS OF THE NORTH EAST, BUT NOT THE MEGA STORM THAT WAS EXPECTED

The ice houses of New England: Dwellings pummeled by up to thirty-three inches of snow, driving winds and flood waters as the last of Winter Storm Juno carves a path from New York to Maine.

  • Huge storm blasted Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine through Tuesday
  • Coastal communities of Marshfield and Scituate flooded after waves breached the sea wall - National Guard called in
  • Almost 30,000 people across Massachusetts were without power, driving ban still in place until midnight
  • Connecticut, Rhode Island and parts of New York state also had driving bans - but lifted them as Tuesday wore on
  • Came as doom predictions of doom in New York City didn't come true - despite driving ban and transit shutdown

  • Braving the snow: The man, who did not give his name, was donning a red woolly hat, a warm coast and sturdy shoes for the dog walk

Best shot: This coffee shop defended itself with sandbags from the approaching waters, which coated the street and funneled ice around Nantucket island

Deluged: Although Winter Storm Juno failed to live up to its hype in New York City, it was a very different story in many parts of New England. Wind-driven seas caused severe flooding along some roadways in coastal Massachusetts including in Scituate (pictured)

Busted: The sea wall, shown here in Marshfield Massachusetts, was no match for the wind and waves of winter storm Juno, which punched through at the spot seen above

Toppled: The stormy weather was so bad in Rhode Island that even its tall ship - a Revolutionary War replica (pictured) - was toppledRhode Island
