INVESTIGATE THE UNITED NATIONS FOR WAR CRIMES - UNRWA closely involved in Gazan agression towards Israel.

Is a United Nations (UN) War Crimes Commission investigating the wrong party?

Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird has sharply criticized the choice of Canadian law professor William Schabas to head a United Nations commission examining possible war crimes against Israel in Gaza, citing past biases expressed by Schabas against Israel.

While Minister Baird deserves praise for standing with Israel against unfair criticism from a biased UN, the real problem is in the actual purpose of the investigation.

Given the general facts that are known to every objective individual with a modicum of common sense, Israel is not the one that needs to be investigated. However, a commission does need to be established to get answers to several key questions:

Question One: Why were lethal weapons - including rockets - both stored and fired by Hamas and Islamic Jihad from United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) schools?

Question Two: How is it possible that the UN had no advance knowledge that their children's schools were being used as weapons storage houses and missile launching pads?

Question Three: If the UN did know that its facilities were being used for such military purposes, why was such activity allowed?

Question Four: Knowing that there was a war going on, why was there apparently little or no care taken, not by the above organizations nor by the UN itself, for the safety of the children who attended those schools?

Using children as human shields is a war crime.

The self-righteous officials at the UN seem to use the old Freudian defense mechanism of projection quite well, redirecting their own culpability by attacking their nemesis Israel.

Perhaps the time has come for the UN to get off its US tax-payer supported high horse and let itself be investigated for its own possible war crimes, at least as an accomplice with its buddies in Hamas and Islamic Jihad.

When will that commission be established?
