There are pink lakes all over the world. They seem surreal. But they exist and their color is due to the presence of algae that produces carotenoids.
Once the lake water reaches a salinity level greater than that of sea water, with high enough temperature and adequate light conditions, the alga begins to accumulate the red pigment beta carotene. You can find pink lakes in Australia, Azerbaijan, Canada, Senegal and Spain.
