ANIMALS - REVENGE OF THE TIGERS

The tigers struck back.  Humans are destroying their forest, and when a tiger cub was killed in a hunters' trap, the tigers took revenge.  These Sumatran tigers are endangered and suffer from hunger as their forest is destroyed by palm oil farmers.

Tigers took revenge on hunters whose deer trap had killed a tiger cub.  They killed and ate one of the hunters, and chased the other five up a tree, where they have been for four days awaiting help.

The men, from a village in Aceh, northern Sumatra, Indonesia, say they had gone into the dense forest in search of agar wood, expensive ingredient in the production of incense and aromatic oils.

Police are planning a rescue and the tigers may have to be anaesthetized or shot.  These tigers are endangered and there are only about 100 in the forests of the Gunung Leuser National Park. Their numbers continue to shrink as the rainforest is wiped out to make room for palm oil plantations.
