HUNDREDS OF BRITONS ABANDON THEIR FLOODED HOMES AS A MUCH WORST STORM HEADS THEIR WAY


Locals flee rising waters, with ghost villages left behind: Hundreds of people abandon homes as worst storm yet heads our way.

  • More homes on Somerset Levels are evacuated amid rising flood waters with more severe weather on the way
  • Householders attempting to stay put warned by loudspeakers on police helicopters of 'imminent threat to life'
  • Just a few homeowners were determined to hold out in areas of Moorland, Northmoor, Saltmoor and Fordgate
  • Winds of 80mph and heavy rain will sweep in from Atlantic tomorrow, in 'worst of the weather so far this year'
  • Flooded areas and sea defences weakened by earlier storms in the South West will be bombarded once more
  • Communities Secretary Eric Pickles says an extra £130million is needed for emergency repairs and clean up
