HILARIOUS DATING TIPS FOR WOMEN IN 1938

If you're middle aged, you may remember what your mother or grandmother used to tell you:

"When I was your age we didn't do such things."

So, what was her dating world like?  The following article may give you a clue.  These were the rules:

Don't be sentimental.  Men don't like tears.

-  Men don't like girls who borrow their handkerchiefs and smudge them with lipstick.  Make up in privacy, not where he sees you.

-  Don't talk while dancing because when a man dances, he wants to dance.

-  If you need a brassiere, wear one. Don't tug at your girdle, and be careful your stockings are not wrinkled.

-  Don't caress your escort in public.  Any open show of affection is in bad taste and embarrasses him or humiliates him.

-  Don't talk about clothes.

-  Don't talk to other men.

-  Don't drink too much.

And don't laugh.  Girls got married in those days, and Dads were able to support them and their children.  College was affordable and jobs were available when they graduated.  There were fewer unwanted pregnancies, less divorce and less fooling around.  Or so says Grandma.
