WILL THE SMARTPHONE KILL SWITCH BE USED FOR OTHER PURPOSES?

Will it turn into another tool for political control?

U.S. prosecutors are proposing that smartphone makers offer a “kill switch” in all new phones produced by the start of next year as part of an initiative to cut down on theft, which sometimes turns violent.

So many high-tech and government proposals start with good intentions - only to morph into something more sinister along the way.

Take Facebook, a nice social medium which is now used to track down people's personal life, associations and opinions by governments - and even by employers who demand access to the employee's password.

And how the war on terror can be aimed at peaceful folks who happen to disagree with government policies.

Will the Kill Switch be used one day to disable phones and the internet - in the name of preserving law and order?

It's not whether this government oversteps its bounds or not. It's that we just don't know who will be in charge in the future, or how that future president will use or misuse these laws.

Arthur was a stray dog who decided to join a European Peak Performance Team during their treck through the jungle in South America. It all started when one of the members gave him a meatball.
