MAARS IS NOT A MISSPELLED WORD

As I first thought. MAARS are craters left behind after violent steam explosions, sparked when rising magma runs into groundwater, which then blows up like a bomb.

ALASKA has the biggest and strangest maars ever found on Earth.

Most maars are about 1,000 feet (300 meters) wide. Their size is limited by fuel — the hot lava quickly boils off available water, shutting down the reaction. But Alaska's enormous Devil Mountain Lakes maar is more than 5 miles (8 km) wide, by far the largest on Earth. That's comparable in size to the calderas atop Hawaii's Kilauea volcano and Oregon's Crater Lake at Mount Mazama.

What makes these maars so unusual is the collision of magma and ice, instead of magma and liquid water. At this spot, lava erupted under thick permafrost, a singular event yet to be found anywhere else on Earth.

Arthur was a stray dog who decided to join a European Peak Performance Team during their treck through the jungle in South America. It all started when one of the members gave him a meatball. From then on Arthur followed them through all kinds of challenges. In the end his loyalty, bravery and devotion paid off.
