3rd Place: The graceful egret was saved from the brink of disappearance in Hungary, where in 1921 there were only 31 mating pairs remaining. The birds are most active at dawn and dusk, and in this shot, captured by Zsolt Kudich, they are squabbling over food in a crowded swamp
Honourable Mention: Scott Portelli came across this jellyfish on a dive in Byron Bay, Australia. The turtles ate various parts of the giant jellyfish, 'oblivious' to the photographer's presence

Honourable Mention: Two Empusa Pennata (a kind of praying mantis) were found by photographer Jose Pesquero Gomez in Las Rozas, Madrid, Spain. A rare scene, where the Empusas seem to play or dance, and share the plant like 'good friends'
Honourable Mention: A crow chasing a buffy fish owl along the riverbank at Pasir Ris Park in Singapore, proved to photographer Lawrence Chia Boon Oo, that the crow was the 'more aggressive' species of the two. The entire spectacle lasted less than two seconds and exemplified nature in its uninhibited form

2nd Place: In low-pressure conditions, southwest winds push the clouds against the vertical peaks of the Pale di San Martino. This photograph was taken at dusk, by Alessandro Gruzza, with a long shutter speed to enhance the movement of the clouds around Cimon della Pala, one of the highest peaks in the Dolomites
3rd Place: A storm developed over the Pacific Ocean a few miles south of the coast of Panama City. According to photographer Santiago Borja, the entire frame was lit by a single lightning bolt in June 2016
Honourable Mention: Photograph taken by Prasenjeet Yadav of a rare 'green meteorite' on top of the Western Ghats, a mountain range in South India. Yadav slept next to the camera and set it to take 999 images. It wasn't until the following afternoon that he noticed the image
