PHOTOGRAPHY - LONDON AND BLACKPOOL - THEN AND NOW

A nostalgic trip down memory lane -
What once was and today's citiscapes.

London then and now

Streets of London now... and then: Stand still and picture yourself in history with app that creates hybrid images of present and past

  • Streetmuseum app can recognise a user's location and then overlay a historic image onto the camera view
  • Each image on the free app can be expanded and explored, along with historical information about the subject
  • Images include Blackfriars station in 1930, Victoria Station in 1950 and London’s skyline seen from Tower Bridge
  • The new locations also take a look at the suburbs and outer boroughs of London – from Richmond mods in 1964 to Brent Cross road construction in the 1970s

Blackpool then and now

Welcome to Sad-pool: Pictures show how seaside town's once proud hotels are boarded up as a sad reminder of its faded glory days.

They were once the shimmering jewels of a popular holiday resort. But now the grand hotels of Blackpool mark its once-famous Promenade like a mouthful of decaying teeth.

Despite multi-million pound investments, and desperate efforts to revive its moribund tourist industry, the forgotten Lancashire resort's Golden Mile is a pallid reflection of its former self.

Many of the once-proud hotels and guest-houses overlooking the cold and often fierce Irish Sea are these days only frequented by rats, seagulls, vandals and the homeless.
