Chief PLO negotiator Saeb Erekat, 62, suffers from pulmonary fibrosis, which is characterized by the development of scars in lung tissue which makes it difficult for them to function properly.  So far Erekat has been treated with drugs, but a few months ago drugs stopped being effective and his condition worsened dramatically.  Erekat began medical treatment in one of Israel's hospitals in the center of the country, but doctors made it clear to him that he had to undergo a lung transplant in order to survive. Since then, he has been on the waiting list. Erekat's Israeli doctors are optimistic about his chances of recovery if he undergoes a transplant.

Shmuel-David in the hospitalIn the meantime Palestinian stone throwers attacked a civilian bus full of children, sending at least one, a ten year old, to hospital with head injuries.    This is the daily reality of terror caused by a heavy indoctrination of genocidal hate by Palestinian educational institutions, clerical and political authorities, and media.

The Israeli government has a policy of going easy on Arab firebombers and stone throwers out of fear of more Arab violence.  This policy of appeasement has never worked.  Arab culture respects only force.

Israel slanderer waits for Israeli lung transplant
'Those who choose to boycott the State of Israel should show some self-respect and boycott all the services of the State of Israel.'

Saeb ErekatAn application had been filed on behalf of Saeb Erekat, a senior PA official, for a lung transplant in Israel.

Saeb Erekat (right)  has waged a relentless war of vicious hate, slander, and an organized call for the boycott of Israel.  Today he waits for a Jewish lung to save his life.   The lung he will receive may very well belong to one of the soldiers he slandered in the past.

In the wake of Operation Defensive Shield in 2002, and the reserve soldiers battle in Jenin in which 13 IDF soldiers were killed, a false propaganda film by director Muhammad Bakri, entitled Jenin Jenin, was released. The film purports to provide prima facie evidence of war crimes committed by the IDF in Jenin which turned out to be wholly spurious, as was decided by the Central District Court.

Erekat took a large part in disseminating the blood libel embodied in the film, which portrayed the story as if a massacre took place in Jenin when noting of the sort occurred.

Israel lost 13 soldiers in the city which it entered after dropping warnings from the air telling the residents to leave and then refraining from bombing from the air to prevent civilian deaths.. Erekat appeared at the time in the various media, mainly on foreign television channels, and disseminated the lie of the massacre.

In addition, in November 2010, Erekat wrote a letter praising the planner of then Minister Rechavam Ze'evi's assassination, and in December 2015 he paid a condolence visit to another family whose son carried out a shooting attack against IDF forces.

In addition, Erekat is an enthusiastic supporter of the boycott movement against Israel - BDS. He has visited EU representatives in the past because they did not support BDS, and asserted that all their support for the two-state solution is meaningless if they do not support the boycott of Israel.

Legal human rights organization Shurat Hadin, joined by 50 IDF reserve officers and soldiers, wrote to the Health Ministry and the National Transplant Center requesting that PA diplomat Saeb Erekat be removed from the waiting list for transplants in Israel.

SOLDIERS PETITION AGAINST THE TRANSPLANT

About 50 soldiers and officers who fought in Operation Defensive Shield and who hold organ donor cards today petitioned the Health Ministry and the National Transplant Center to immediately remove Saeb Erekat from the list of transplants in Israel, due to the fact that Erekat has repeatedly slandered IDF soldiers, called for the boycott of the State of Israel, campaigned for sanctions against it, and led the BDS movement to isolate and harm the State of Israel.

In a letter sent to the National Transplant Center, written by the Chairwoman of the Shurat-Din organization, Nitzana Darshan Leitner, it was stated: "It is unthinkable that anyone who defames Israeli citizens and commits blood libel against IDF soldiers receive a donation from these very civilians or soldiers.

It is also inconceivable that anyone who calls for to boycott the State of Israel, initiates propaganda for sanctions against it, and leads the BDS movement to isolate and harm the State of Israel, now seeks the assistance of that same State of Israel when he needs it. Those who choose to boycott the State of Israel have enough self respect to boycott all the services of the State of Israel."

The letter further states that "in view of the discussion that took place over the past two days, we learned from the response of the Health Ministry and the National Transplant Center that the request by Erekat to be on the waiting list for a lung transplant in Israel would be rejected because he is not an Israeli citizen.

However, it was clarified that in certain cases, even if these are extremely unusual, when there is no match between those waiting for a lung transplant and a lung available for transplantation, the transplant committee offers the transplant to a non-Israeli citizen, subject to the consent of the donor's family. We must make it clear that this exclusion is also inappropriate and should be rejected.

"Organ transplants are based on principles of mutual responsibility and willingness to sacrifice, and involve great loss and pain. We do not consider it appropriate to add pain and sorrow by legitimizing the illogical step of assisting an anti-Israeli element who not only does not favor the existence of Israeli society but also acts to destroy it and delegitimize it. And we are aware of Israel's being an enlightened state and striving to be a light unto the nations, as exemplified by the countless humanitarian acts carried out by the state. At the same time, we clarify that it is inappropriate for one part of the State of Israel or its citizens to give life to a person who acts systematically to mortally harm it," the letter says.

This would indicate that Erekat would not be offered a lung that could be used to save an Israeli patient. However, Nitzana Darshan Leitner, chairman of the Shurat Hadin organization, added: "The very submission of this request is totally outrageous. Saeb Erekat carries on his neck an albatross of despicable and damaging slander against Israeli citizens, supporting the murderers who attack them. These are the citizens of Israel from whom he is now asking for a lung."

ISRAEL TODAY REPORTS:

Israeli hospitals routinely accept Palestinians, no matter who they are. Even terrorists who killed Israelis receive life-saving treatment from the very people they would kill given the chance. And medical care is just one of many benefits Palestinians receive from Israel.

We  learned yesterday via the internet news portal Divuach Rishoni of a Palestinian family demanding that one of its members badly injured in a car accident be transferred to an Israeli hospital. Video footage published online showed officials at Razi Hospital in Jenin refusing the request, and then one of the family members pulling out a gun in order to "persuade" the hospital to send his relative to receive Israeli care.

The ongoing campaign by Arabs and anti-Semites to delegitimize Israel should have been discredited long ago because of the falsehood of their accusations.  But there is such hunger to find fault with Israel that every charge demonizing the Jewish state is embraced unquestionably.

The following is a 2011 report on the debunking of the Jenin blood label, in which Saeb Erekat discussed in the above article was an enthusiastic participant.

The Goldstone blood libel unmasked

April 3, 2011 -  Over the weekend, retired South African judge Richard Goldstone admitted that his report on the December 2008-January 2009 Israeli military incursion into Gaza had wrongly accused the Jewish state of war crimes.

Goldstone acknowledged the evidence provided in subsequent Israeli investigations had debunked the information he and his team was fed by the Palestinians during their UN-commissioned inquiry.

But the damage has already been done.

The Goldstone episode again highlights a favorite tactic of Israel’s enemies, which is to make outlandish claims against the Jewish state, and then get the international media to print them, or even get the UN to adopt the claims.

The Palestinians and their backers know that the international community is predisposed to believing the worst about Israel, and so will latch on to these lies without conducting so much as rudimentary fact-checking.

When the truth finally surfaces, it is too late. The story is old news by that time, and no longer of interest to the media.

This is a common phenomenon over the past several decades of the Israeli-Arab conflict. Some of the more grievous examples (and they are far from being the only ones) include:

The Goldstone Commission: Israel was accused by an official UN commission of purposely targeting Palestinian civilians during Operation Cast Lead, thereby leading to the deaths of well over 1,000 people in the Gaza Strip.

The commission labeled the Israeli incursion an illegal action, despite the enormous Palestinian missile barrage on southern Israel that had preceded it.

Only weeks later did reporters pick up on the discrepancies between Palestinian-provided casualty figures and the lack of patients in local hospitals.

They didn’t bother to publish much about it. Several months after that, Hamas Interior Minister Fathi Hamad admitted that 700 of the people killed during the mini-war were Hamas fighters, matching the figures Israeli originally provided.

And now, two years after the fact, Goldstone himself has come forward and written in the Washington Post that Israel did not target Palestinian civilians, and was only acting to defend itself and its own civilians.

Israeli leaders want an apology, but the damage has been done.

Operation Defensive Shield: In 2002, following a particularly severe string of Palestinian terrorist attacks, Israel launched Operation Defensive Shield to root out the terrorist infrastructure in Judea and Samaria. One of the focal points was the northern Samaria town of Jenin. Of the 60 suicide bombers to attack Israelis in 2002, 23 had comes from Jenin.

During what came to be known as the Battle of Jenin, the Palestinians claimed that over 500 civilians had been massacred and that Israeli forces had demolished large portions of the city. The accusations were broadcast around the world, leading to a massive outcry against Israel.

Months later, it was revealed that only 52 Palestinians had died during the intense street battles in Jenin, and that most of them were armed militants. Israel lost 27 soldiers during the battle. A simple check of satellite photos also showed that Jenin had not been destroyed, and that the fighting had been limited to a small corner of Jenin where only a few buildings had been demolished.

Israel was quietly absolved, but the damage had been done.

Mohammed al-Dura: On September 30, 2000, Palestinian terrorists engaged Israeli soldiers stationed in the Gaza Strip. Video footage of the clash broadcast on and provided by France 2 showed 12-year-old Mohammed al-Dura hiding behind his terrified father as the bullets flew. Moments later, the boy slumps over dead and the father is wounded.

Israel was immediately blamed for shooting the boy in cold blood, and Mohammed al-Dura became an internationally-recognized poster child for armed uprising against the Jewish state.

Subsequent investigations by the Israeli army and other journalists have shown that the Israeli troops could not possibly have hit al-Dura from their position, even if they were trying to, and that the France 2 reporter on the scene may have been collaborating with the Palestinians.

Phillipe Karsenty, a French media commentator, as sued by France 2 for questioning the authenticity of the footage. A French court later ruled the Karsenty had indeed provided compelling evidence that France 2’s report was faulty, but the damage was already done.

Fainting schoolgirls: In 1983, a large number of Palestinian schoolgirls began fainting while at school. Accusations were immediately made that they had been poisoned, and that Israel had done it.

The foreign press jumped on the story and reprinted it far and wide without bothering the check the facts. The UN Security Council condemned Israel for poisoning little girls. Months later, experts proved that the girls had in fact not been poisoned. The media stopped covering the story, and the UN remained silent.

Organ harvesting: In August 2009, Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet headlined a story claiming that Israeli soldiers were capturing Palestinian Arabs and harvesting their organs. The only evidence provided were the unsubstantiated claims of a handful of Palestinians. Nevertheless, the story became a sensation, leading to international outcries against Israel.

The editor of the newspaper later admitted he had no proof that the claims were true, but defended his right to publish the blood libel regardless.

First Lebanon War: The Palestinians realized how they could manipulate the press and public opinion against Israel for the first time during the First Lebanon War. After Israeli forces entered Lebanon in response to incessant PLO attacks on northern Israel, the Palestinians claimed that 10,000 civilians had been killed and more than half a million displaced.

The foreign reporters repeated the claims without checking the facts, like, for instance, that there were not even half a million people living in the whole of southern Lebanon. Media outlets also recycled images of destruction caused during the earlier Lebanese civil war as though it had been caused by Israel.

Today’s blood libels against Israel mirror the historical blood libels against the Jews in their viciousness, their absurdity, and in the fact that even after being debunked and dismissed, they continue to haunt the Jewish people and act as a platform for hatred.
