Whenever I see people risking life and limb just for the thrill of it I think of their parents, who slaved away for twenty years just to protect the safety of their precious children, only to see them risking their life just for the sake of an adrenaline rush and notoriety.

What a view: Teal's home is nearby, where she lives in a reclusive Swiss Family Robinson-style house on Kona in Hawaii

Hot stuff! Adventurer Alison Teal hot-surfs around an erupting volcano paddling just a few feet from flowing lava
30 year old Alison Teal gets a thrill by swimming near flowing lava from Kilauea Volcano in Hawaii.  Actually, the risk is not great, since the crater is nowhere near this lava flow, and water cools the lava on contact.  But there are unexpected risks, though.

The avid adventurer, who believes in calling to the ancestors for protection, warned 'don't try this at home'
Teal travels around the world seeking out life-changing challenges, which she posts on her Instagram page.

Dangerous task: Teal, known as the 'female Indiana Jones', travels around the world seeking out life-changing challenges

After her August 3 adventure Teal said: 'This was a lifelong dream. It was humbling and breath-taking and hot.  I was hoping to catch a wave, however, when I got in close I was hit by a spatter of hardening rock spray and I quickly ducked under water.'

Alongside her daring adventures Teal also advocates for wildlife and the environment and runs her own online series
Actually, she is mostly floating on a surf board, which she uses as a shield against hot water.

Godly: Teal said: 'We consulted with the Elders and with their guidance, permission, and followed cultural protocol'
Photographer Perrin James took the pictures.
