This is the adorable rescue dog whose love of a simple metal bucket has turned him into a hit online.

Slim was found emaciated and scared in an abandoned house before he was taken in by staff at an animal shelter in Ashland, Ohio.

But since moving to Ashland County Dog Shelter, the pit bull, thought to be between four and five-years-old, has destroyed most of the toys given to him - apart from his bucket.

He likes his 'toy' so much that he becomes distressed without it - and is often seen carrying it around the shelter between his jaws.

Staff say he 'loves to play' and that he has 'a lot of energy and charm'.

'He sits like a perfect gentleman for a treat and takes them so nicely. He will need a home that will continue to work on these manners he has learned.

'Slim really needs a rescue to take him in and give him time to decompress after all this shelter time.'

The picture of him clasping the bucket between his teeth has proved a hit on the internet.

Wendy Lee Mitchell wrote on Facebook: 'He's so cute and bless you for keeping him there. Seems like a special dog.'

And Maricia Houghton Stafford added: 'So sweet and sad! Prayers for his forever loving home soon.'
