IRAQ WAR VETERAN RISKS LIFE TO SAVE DOG LEFT TO DIE ON BUSY MOTORWAY

6.13.14 - Army Vet Rescues Beagle Hit by Car & Left to Die4

Aaron Schneider with injured beagle

Aaron Schneider rushed across the dangerous interstate in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, in order to save a beagle that had been struck by a driver who did not stop.

‘From when I saw him get hit, my heart went out to him,’ he told Fox 4 News.  ‘That’s why I was so focused on him. I didn’t even think about traffic. It was busy too.

I can remember looking down the highway and all these cars were coming at me and honking and flashing their lights, swerving out of the way.’

Despite immediately calling animal control for help they failed to show and after three hours the soldier decided to do something himself.

He fashioned a makeshift stretcher and then transferred the dog to his truck and took it to get medical treatment.  Vets found that the dog had a torn windpipe, broken ribs, internal bleeding, and road rash, but as a result of Schneider’s actions, should now recover fully.

The veteran wants to keep the animal, which has been called Buster, but efforts were being made to find his owner.
