FLESH-EATING SPIDERS FOUND IN BRITAIN - Fish-eating spiders can gobble up prey five times their size.

Scientists have discovered the eight-legged predators lurking by rivers, killing fish and devouring them.  More than 80 incidences of fish predation by semi-aquatic spiders have been observed by researchers. 

Fish-eating spiders can be found on every continent except Antarctica gobbling prey up to five times their size.

They’re especially prevalent in warm, oxygen-depleted bodies of water like the wetlands of Florida, where fish are more likely to come to the surface in search of oxygen-rich water.  But they’ve also been spotted right here in the UK – home of the great raft spider.  The news will not be welcomed by arachnophobia sufferers, so here’s a bumblebee getting revenge on a spider…
