D-DAY - TOGETHER, ONE LAST TIME - Photos of commemorative events in Europe

(Being updated - see further below) - Daily Mail coverage of ceremonies and heart-warming stories of heroes.    Here are some of the features with superb photographs by the Daily Mail.  (I'll be adding more features to this page as they are reported.)

Photo on the right (AP, Daily Mail):  Remembering: (from left) Second World War veterans of the US 29th Infantry Division, Hal Baumgarten, 90 from Jacksonville, Flordia, Steve Melnikoff, 94, from Maryland, Don McCarthy, 90 from Rhode Island, and Morley Piper, 90, from Massachusetts, attend a D-Day commemoration, on Omaha Beach

'I look at that beach and I can tell you where each was lying... I can still see their faces'.  Tears of D-Day veterans as they return to Normandy to honour their fallen comrades.
Former soldiers from Britain and the US stood alongside other heroes as they recalled the harrowing day.  Many were seen saluting at gravestones of their friends while others wiped tears from their eyes during speeches

The media and western leaders have been disdainful of Russian president Putin lately due to the Ukraine situation.  However, he represents Russia and  everyone should be reminded of the fact that the Second World War could not have been won without the disproportionate sacrifice of the people of the Soviet Union.
