Teen girls shown in Vine video microwaving helpless kitten deny torturing it.
The South Portland High School girls were charged with felony animal cruelty over the September 2013 clip
The kitten is then seen panicking and scrambling a few moments later as one of the girls opens the door.
Their lawyer told a court the teens didn't understand what they were doing
The girls must undergo a psychological assessment before their next court appearance
The kitten, Miracle, survived and has been adopted
