SO WE NO LONGER TRUST THE GOVERNMENT. -- NOW WHAT?

COMMENTARY

By Tracy W.

As many other people I have been gradually filled with suspicion about Western governments' true secret agendas.

My most frequented alternative sites unearth secrets and republish reports that point to the global agenda as our Enemy Number One.

Once I was young and innocent.

Those were the years when I still had heroes.

Those were the years when I believed in the future.

Those were the years when I had faith in humankind.

Those were the years when I only accessed mainstream media.

And then everything changed.

I used to sneak into the internet on my work computer only to exchange e-mails with my friends.

But then one day I got myself my very own laptop.  And my outlooks on life, people, and the world would never  be the same again.

For months I was riveted to the alternative media, in a permanent state of astonishment.

I began to look for hidden meanings and secret agendas in every event and news report on the mainstream media.

The law of unintended consequences.

Just as alternative media seeded suspicion about the globalists in me, I could not shake my oversized spirit of skepticism when reading the alternative sites' own reports.

-  First, there was the issue of veracity.  How much was true and how much was spin or outright fabrication?

-  And then, what kind of subliminal messages were they also conveying to their readers?

How to detect BS in BS detectors themselves?

One clue:  Notice what they're silent about.  Silence too can be eloquent

Another clue:  Notice how they rationalize when "good guys" and "victims" behave badly.  Always blame the globalists.

I'm not going to name names.

But you know who they are.  Some of them are immensely popular. They have fans in the millions.

Others are less popular but still with a significant following.  Some are writers, debaters, whistleblowers, truth-seekers, truth-exposers, debunkers, advocates for the common man, advocates for victims of all kinds, defenders of democracy, justice, and so on.  Their credentials are lofty and daring.

The ugly truth.

Humans aren't nice and innocent.  Not always, anyway.  But the myth of the noble savage lives on in the leftist and alternative media, although camouflaged under the general label of victimization.

We need to remember that strife, cruelty, genocide, and all kinds of abuse have been perpetrated ever since humans (or our closest hominid ancestors) made their appearance on Earth.

It's part of our animal nature to be territorial.

But it's not part of our animal nature to be sadistic and cruel.  That's part of our human nature.  It's something that developed in the human brain somewhere, sometime, somehow.

Animals kill, eat, and they're done with it.  Animals defend their territory, or challenge a rival for it, and the issue is settled and finished.

With humans the practice of degrading, injuring, and killing our enemies to satisfy feelings of revenge, superiority, or pleasure takes place with disturbing frequency.  That's why perpetrating torture, denigration, deliberate starvation and genocide are all uniquely human crimes.

So why are alternative media so selective, appearing to blame every bad human behavior on globalists?

After reading the alternative media for a while I started to notice how selective they are.

The United States, has held the rank of superpower for decades, and has been pushing its way around for a long time.  That country has a lot to answer for.

And it's easy to blame the colonial powers as well.  What they did was definitely not nice.   Particularly the slave trade.

But how many of us know that the greatest perpetrators of slavery have been and still are non-white men?  Slavery is still practiced in other parts of the world.

Genocide continues to occur with disturbing frequency.  We hear a lot about genocides inflicted by Germans and Soviets in great detail, but not so much about non-Western nations that have been just as guilty.  Why is that?

Four legs good, two legs bad - Orwell's Animal Farm

That Orwellian pattern repeats in the leftist and alternative media where the globalists are guilty of just about every sin in the world, while other nations are just innocent victims.

According to the leftist and alternative media, whenever non-Westerners behave badly, it's because they are either puppets or allies of the globalists.

This misrepresentation of human nature may strike some readers as downright biased and misleading.

There is true evil out there, regardless of race, nationality, religion, gender, or political ideology

And not all of that evil is perpetrated or instigated by the West or the globalists.

This particularly narrow attribution of culpability should make us very suspicious as to where these alternative sites get their funding and their inspiration.  And also consider whether they are simply afraid to point fingers at certain groups or ideologies for fear of retribution.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There is also a sinister aspect to the deliberate demolition of old paradigms:  the desire to clear the way for another one just as - or maybe more - false than the previous one.
After endlessly repeating that that the truth is being hidden from them - people are eager to receive it.  And that's what we see in the uncritical embrace of "alternative" truths.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Let's use alternative media information, but let's also question their motivations.  Let's do our own research to fill in the blanks.  If we're going to be ultra-skeptics, nobody should be off the hook - not even the alternative media purveyors of "truth".
