FORTY PERCENT OF JAPANESE NUCLEAR EXPORT PARTS DID NOT GET SAFETY CHECKS

In the years after World War Two Japan set out on an intensive industrialization process. 

 

Their exported products then were inexpensive but of questionable quality. 

 

Years passed and Japan became a leader of quality products.  We all bought Japanese electronics, confident that they were world class. 

 

More years have passed and now Japan is mired in the ever worsening nuclear disaster at Fukushima - showing the world not only that it can't contain the damage, but that a top policy regarding this disaster is to cover up or distort the truth for as long as possible, while avoiding hard choices that would protect Japan and world safety from further radioactivity from their damaged reactor. 

 

The following article is one more piece of evidence that the old Japanese work ethic has either been oversold or it never truly existed.

 

 

Japan Today - Japan exported nuclear reactor parts worth 124.8 billion yen to more than 20 countries from 2003-2012, the Mainichi Shimbun said, citing official trade figures. 

 

Some of those countries receiving unchecked nuclear parts were Britain, Germany, Australia, Italy, Russia and other countries.

 

The unchecked parts included reactor pressure vessels shipped to Taiwan in 2004 and control rod drives, which regulate the rate of nuclear fission, supplied to Sweden and Brazil, Mainichi said.

 

A massive earthquake and tsunami ravaged the country’s northeast coast and triggered a meltdown at the Fukushima nuclear power plant in March 2011.
