BIRDS USED TO HAVE FOUR WINGS

PALEONTOLOGY NEWS


Some birds from between 100 and 140 million years ago had four wings.  The extra pair of wings was located on their legs, which allowed the bird to fly like an old biplane. 

Up to now scientists were aware of feathered dinosaurs with forelimbs and hindlimbs. The current feathered bird find in China, though, is definitely a bird - although with an extra set of wings.
